Anyones 07 I4 chattery??

On startup my 07 purrrrrs like a kitten but once it warms up and the RPM's go to 850 (idle) that motor is very chattery*. I only have 250 miles and it might smooth up a bit once broke in a bit but anyone else have this problem?

The Accord I just sold was the opposite, chattery* when first start but within a couple of minutes you couldn't even hear it running.

*=lifter noise.

Welcome to Toyota car ownership! What engine do you have? I am not familar with the 07 Camry but here are a few basic engine premises. If it is lifers making the noise then yes, usually the chatter goes away as the engine warms up. This is because the oil starts to circulate and the valve clearances reduce from metal heat expansion.

Normally, lifter noise will stay the same or gets worse over time, not better. As such, I would not expect the engine to get any more quiet then it is now. Can you live with this?

As the car is brand new, what does your dealer have to say? Is it really lifter noise or something else. Not to be difficult, but if they say it is lifter noise and it will quiet down or this is just normal. I would ask them to prove it to you or get it in writing in case it does not go away.

I can not say if other 07 owners have this problem or if this is "normal." An engine should run fairly quiet, my older Camry with high mileage is pretty quiet. Why should a new and improved designed car be louder?

As to what to do. Your dealer should be the one to help you here. This is a brand new car.

Is the engine using the correct weight of oil for your air temperature. Perhaps a higher weight oil might help. This info is in your owners manual.

If it is the lifters, the dealer can check the valve clearance and adjust them if required. This is not a big deal for a dealer to do. You will need to have a cold engine to check and adjust them, as such you might need to leave the car for a time.

If this were my car I would hear the dealer out, give them a chance to deal with the issue. If it is valve chatter, ask them to check and adjust the valves under warranty. If it is something else, ask them to show you what it is. Ask them why the engine noise get louder as the car warms up.

Post back if you still have a problem.

Well I haven't taken it in, trying to decide if it's abnormal first. The car has 250 miles on it. I'm to take it in for the first oil change at 1000 and will talk it over with them then.

Anyone with an 07 experienced the same (I don't want to call it a problem, yet)??

Sounds good. Please post back after you visit the dealer. I am curious about what they say, I am sure others are also.
