5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I've since had this problem corrected by the dealer. They had to call some "tech center" in CA to get the procedure to realign the door. Apparently, the tolerances were too tight to allow for body flex which resulted in the door vibrating against the body. Once they realigned the door, problem went away. Now if I could only get them to properly fix the rattle resonating from the electric review mirror area...
Cwopete2, could I trouble you to describe the symptoms you had before that fix? Many of us have described our problems differently: For example mine is a slight but annoying creaking over my left ear. Other people use words like rattling or squeeking or vibration.
Yes...now I know what people are talking about. The new XLE has some creaks & rattles. It is a Kentucky Car. My LE was a J-Car with no squeaks or anything.
The Part Manager at my Dealership told me the J-cars are better built in this regard. They have "fixes" for these American built ones.. It boils down to foam rubber and clips. They just came out with a better clip because the other clips were breaking...
Damn it... The one thing I truly loved about my LE was it never made any sounds....
On another note he told me they had a Sienna Van come in with 34K on it. It had transmission problems. Turns out it was built with a Camry Transmission. Huh? WTF?? He told me the two production lines are next to one another....that mistake would never happen in Japan.

After constantly reading about this B-pillar noise I've become paranoid. I'm always listening for it. A couple of times that I thought I heard it, it was the seat belt my wife didn't retract properly. Been 10 months now and no rattles, squeeks or thumps. Made in Kentucky!

so has anybody figured out a solution to the B-pillar rattle yet? As far as I can tell, the rattle is caused by an improper fitting door. I took my car in to the dealer on 3 seperate occasions for a total of 10 days in the shop, and all those retards did was add some weather stripping to the door. I even specified to them that it would require a realignment of the door, but to no avail. In addition, they damaged my interior while ripping apart the b-pillar and door panels. I just really want to have this problem fixed so I don't have to deal with the incessant rattling in my ear while driving
There doesn't seem to be one simple solution. At least I haven't found one. Toyota used a mallot to adjust my door latch (can't think of a the right name for what the latch latches to, but that silver thing) and I added some black spongy weather stripping. Both seemed to help at the time, and maybe in combination, but now I still get the occassional creeks and ticks on my '05 XLE.
I took it in for an oil change yesterday and mentioned the rattle also just to see if they heard it too. After a long wait, the service guy comes to me to tell me that the mechanic did infact hear it, however is unable to find where its coming from, and has already taken the door apart a couple of times, since it wasn't the B-pillar for sure. So after waiting almost 3 hrs I find out that its fixed and they weren't sure what it was and mentioned it was trial and error, and that they insulated the door more or something, which I didn't quite understand. But I'm happy since I don't hear it anymore. So hopefully that helps others here.
I also have the rattles coming from all over (2007 SE V6). What I'm currently using to help pinpoint the problem is a audio test CD. IT plays different tones and with the volume turned slightly up you can hear where the rattles are emanating from. Hope this helps. http://virtuelvis.com/archives/2004/09/audio-test-cd
ok guys i work for toyota dealership .. and i have had a car almost for about 3 weeks in service that i have been working on and that metal ticking sound is actually a actuator in the door .. under the window .. so when u press on the window from sitting in the car it actually stops.. what it does is actally channels the sound up the b post and makes it sound like its coming from up in the post or top of the door but really its in the bottom under the window .. ill get more details from my mechanic on how to fix this .. i think he acutally took it out and then put a small layer of foam around the actuator and then put it back on and now no more noise.. for the customer .. and she is happy as can be .. it took us forever trying to figure this one out .. but have it fixed.. this is for the stupid metal / plastic ticking sound in the b post where the seat belt is .. or sounds like acutally really is in the bottom of the front door under window.. hit me back if have questions.. im sure u will .. tried to explain best i could .. lol

good idea, but too bad most of the rattles are cause by very low frequencies
