5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was wondering if anybody has had an aftermarket alarm installed in their new Camry. I have read the posts and most are about the VIP factory alarm. I looked under the steering column and I was not aware that this car has knee air bags. Now it gets complicated to install an A/F alarm by meself (I did it on me Ram) since there is no enough room and I dont think I can remove the air bag. Anyone installed one or took it somewhere to get it installed? Not the VIP.

I had keyless installed which from what I know if is pretty much the same as an alarm without the speaker. They put the "brain" in the drivers kick panel and stayed away from the airbag for the post part.
So I did as suggested by an asswipe in another post and started testing wires in order to install me A/M alarm. I bought a cheap prestige alarm with auto-start. So far, I got the alarm install with the starter cutout, the door locks lock and unlock. If I wanted the second sense for all doors, I had to open the door panel and cut more wires to add a relay. I said forget it, lock and unlock all with one sense. Installed aftermarket trunk release solenoid and attached it to the alarm with a relay. That works too. I am missing the light flashing and the remote start. Hopefully I will find a wiring diagram out there to help with the connections.
I'll keep you posted.

I cant believe that no one has installed an alarm system other than the VIP.
Under Toyota Accessories for the 07, I can't find an alarm that Toyota makes. All I find is the glass breakage sensor. It seems all that is available is after market alarms. I would go for a Viper. They're guaranteed for life and are consider by many to be the best. It comes with keyless entry also.

I would have gone with a 2-way page system, but me wife did not like the bulky lcd. The viper is good, but as the asswipe from the other post said, I'm too cheap, so I settle for the Prestige. It works, that's all that matters.

I hear ya. The thing I liked about the Viper was their paten on the shock system. I've never had a false alarm from it. Thunder won't set it off or loud cars etc.

When installing an aftermarket alarm with keyless entry and remote start, does that make the built-in buttons on the key useless, or is there a way to maintain/reassign use of those buttons?
