5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi everyone. With the 4th of July sales coming next weekend, I think I'll be purchasing an 07 Camry LE I4 at hopefully a good price. So to "get ready" for it, I was wondering if anyone could suggest some kind of iPod cradle that would fit nicely in the compartment next to the gear shifter. I'd rather not prefer having the AC vent mounted ones as having wires running up and down my dash would be rather annoying. So if anyone could recommend something, preferably clean and low profile, that'd be great.
Also, when I was at the Toyota of Glendora dealer today, I got a chance to sit in an LE. I of course found the aux jack and the little cubby for routing the wire through. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but when I connect the audio jack to the stereo, I route it through to the right, and out the side of the dash? I didn't get a chance to examine it too much as I didn't want to give the salesman any impression that I REALLY wanted the car. Otherwise they'd use their "tactics" to try to bog up the price on me and such (yes, I've met a few salesmen that can be like that)....damn vultures.
Alright...I guess I have more questions than I thought I would... but I hope you guys can bear with me.
Has anyone purchased purchased an 07 I4 in the past few days? Because I've been following up on the LE I4 transmission hesitation issue and I'm wondering if Toyota has come anywhere NEAR recognizing this issue. Being the young, daring, but precise and safe (HAH, ::knocks on wood: driver that I am, it sounds like this would pose an issue for me. Would it serve me any good to ask the dealer/salesman upfront?
So anyway, when and once I purchase this, I plan on doing a few "SE-like" changes to it. Things including the SE grill, which I really dig, the body kit, fog lights, and rims. The SE rims just appeal real nicely to me, since they're real clean and match the car. Anyone know if they can be purcahsed from the dealer? Because I'll be getting the LE with plastic wheel covers. And finally, as for those wondering why I shouldn't just get the SE, I'd like to believe me, but my parents are paying for this car, and I feel pretty fortunate as it is, so I don't think I should be asking anymore from them.
Thanks for the help guys, I'll probably be posting or asking a few more questions as the time draws closer, or once I finally get the damn car =P
How much are your parents willing to spend? You are very lucky they are buying you a new car! We got our SE w/leather for $22300 out the door. We are extremely happy with it. Maybe if you contributed to the cost they would get the SE. Just a thought....
Well we already have a pretty solid idea of how much we're willing to pay. I've gone to several dealerships already, and I'm hoping to get the car for $20,400 out the door (I live in CA). As for your suggestion to contributing to the cost, I think I'll consider it. But the only problem is, I don't have a job at the moment, so it'd probably take me like a million years to help pay them off. But then again, my parents might not let me help pay, as they want it to be spent towards my education, etc etc.

If you're planning on doing all the SE mods (wheels included) then you might as well buy the SE. Then you get the suspension package to go along with it!
If you weren't doing the wheels, then getting the LE is the better route.

Go get a Costco membership if you dont already have one, then go to www.costco.com and find the auto buyers program link. Fill in the information and within 24 hours you will have a local Toyota dealership Fleet department manager contacing you, who will basically give you the car for close to invoice. Invoice for the I4 LE is close to $19,000 so they will mark it up to probably $19,400. Hey you might be able to talk him down a little from this point. This is a good way to save you a $1,000 bucks as you are in hopes of already getting it for $20,400. Plus you dont have to deal with any shady sales people. I bought my 05 Accord coupe EX-v6 with leather and XM, (which was priced MSRP $27,000 at my local dealership) on the Costco autobuyers program and the fleet manager gave me the car for $23,400. I saved $3600 bucks! Im telling you this works...........
I got my '07 SE 5-speed w/moonroof and spoiler for $21,400. Make sure you figure out how much it's going to cost you to make your LE look like an SE before you take the plunge.
P.S. Since I have a 5-speed, I don't have to worry about those unfortunate transmission issues.

That sounded like a great idea!.... until I remembered that I'm not a Costco member. A lot of dealerships here are selling a couple hundred dollars below invoice already, and most dealers are already trying to compete with each other to give me a better price. So far the best I've seen was $20,400 out the door like you had mentioned. \
Does anyone know the price of an SE in SoCal? Specifally an SE I4 without all the other fancy crap like the navigation, and just the standard stereo. And I'm preferring sport fabric over the leather. My guess is that it would probably be one or two thousand more than the LE. The reason I am asking here is because I'll know how much I could be potentially getting the car at, rather than starting off scratch at the dealer who might be charging me more than I had hoped. Happened to me the first and second time I bought cars with my parents. Fortunately, it was only very minor.
