Anyone take out their TPMS sensors on a 07 yet??

For those of you that have upgraded your wheels have you had to go without the TPMS sensors? Did you get a dashlight?

I saw a post on Edmunds towntalk with a guy saying the dashlight didn't come on, just wonder if any here has experienced this?

I replaced my factory wheels on my 07 camry with a set of TSW Rocket 5 18" rims. The dealership forgot to put in the sensors in, so when I got about 3 miles away, the light went crazy and wouldn't go out. I took the car back and haven't had that problem since. By the way, I was told there isn't a way to deactivate the warning light w/o having the stems in or removing the fuse to the light.

When you took the car back did they put the sensors in to rectify it? See below, this is the posting from the Edmunds board. I'd just post there a question to the originator but their board is just a list and am pretty sure he'd never see it.

Just a follow up on the TPMS. I just installed 07 17" SE wheels and tires on my 07 LE that had the standard 16" tires and wheels with those flimsy wheel covers. The new SE rims didn't have the tire pressure sensors, so I expected to see the idiot light on the dash to flash, to my surprise no light! The way it was explained to me, now that none of my tires (including the spare) have no sensors the ECM has nothing to sense so there is no fault, no fault no light. So I didn't have to take down my 16's and take those sensors and put them on my 17" SE's, which saved me another hundred bucks. I plan to put the 16's back on for the winter.

I know in the past Toyota used the ABS sensor to comapre wheel speeds. So if all the tires were low, the system wouldnt detect it. Did they change systems?

I installed SE wheels, the ones I installed came with the TPMS sensors in the wheels. I haven't yet registered them and after about a week the dash light did come on.

Yes but if there are no sensors, the system should show a malfunction.

anybody though about calling the service department and ask??????

In the repair manual it says:

(b) Under the following conditions, the system may not
function properly.
• Facilities or devices that use similar radio
frequencies are located in the vicinity of the
vehicle.
Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter
Tire Pressure Warning
Antenna and Receiver
Tire Pressure Warning ECU
Tire Pressure
Warning Reset
Switch
Combination Meter Assembly
- Tire Pressure Warning Light
Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter
Tire Pressure
Warning Valve and
Transmitter (*)
*: Ground Spare Tire
Front
E129451E02
TW–12 TIRE AND WHEEL – TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM
TW
• A radio device of similar frequency is used in the
vehicle.
• A large amount of snow or ice is stuck to the
vehicle, especially onto the wheels and around
the wheel houses.
• The battery of the sensor has been depleted.
The tires without tire pressure warning valve and
transmitter are used.
• Tire chains are used.
• When the ground spare tire is not within the
receivable range of the electric wave, a signal
may not be received because the ground spare
tire is fixed. Accordingly, the system may not
function properly. If there is a possibility that the
tire pressure warning system does not receive a
signal from the grounde spare tire, rotate the tire
90°.
• If any wheels other than the specified ones are
used, the system may not function properly
because interference may prevent the radio
waves from being correctly transmitted from the
tire pressure sensor.
• Depending on the tire type, the system may not
function properly even though the specified
wheels are used.
(c) The average usage life of the grommet of the tire
pressure warning valve and transmitter is
approximately 5 years, at which time it must be
replaced.
Re-tighten the valve nut if the valve is leaking air,
although it is less than 5 years old and there is no
problem with grommets.
(d) After removing and installing the ECU or a sensor,
check for a diagnostic code and verify that it is a
normal code.

I hope I am understanding correctly, when I put the 17 I just bought on my LE, the TPMS cannot be swapped over to the new wheels?

MNMAN,
I just got my 17x7 BSA's from the Bay as well. I took them to have them instlaeed and was told that I need wheels cut for TPMS. The service guy there stated that although the sensors would mount in the wheels, they needed to be basically perpendicular and not at a 45 degree angle when mounted. My thinking is that as long as they are mounted in the wheel, torqued properly, the sensor doesn't care how they are oriented. Am I correct in my assumption? Or do I need new wheels?

Thanks DL

07s have direct tire pressure systems, they do not use the wheel speed sensor to monitor tire pressure, as far as puting different wheel on a car, its should work fine, just dont break the sensor when dismounting the tires. ( do this by unscrewing the base of the stem and let them drop into the tire so ur machine doesnt catch it and damage it)
