Standard alarm included with 2007 Camry?

Hi there,
I've read alot of complaints about getting an alarm installed on the 07 Camry. My questions is: does the Camry come wth a standard alarm along with its keyless entry feature? Even the 2000 Hyundai Elantra I bought 5-6 years ago came with a piece of crap standard alarm system. I'm getting my Camry SE V6 next week and want to make sure it is as secure as possible. If it does not come with a standard alarm, what do you guys suggest?

This is incorrect. The only model that comes with the alarm is the XLE, none of the other ones do. I had the dealer install the VIP RS3200 on my car after delivery, had a few minor problems and they broke a harness that the had to special order so my car would not start, it was in the shop for a week but I'm glad I got it. No problems from it at all. I also have early warning LoJack installed on my '07 SE V6

Evan,
What do you recommend I do to have a alarm installed with no problems? I do not want my car to be stuck in the shop for a week. Also, how much did you pay for the LoJack system? Thanks!

Well, all the Camry V6's here in georgia have an alarm system. So, its not standard? Only in select states?

well Many dealers will install an alarm, my dealaer insaleld an Automate alarm/remote start.

or you could get the VIP but it is not standard out of factory line.
Keyless have the Panic function but that's it, not alarm.

To put in my two cents, getting the alarm system for the Camry is only worth it if:

1. It is free. (Dealer installed it without extra cost when you purchased the vehicle.)

Don't pay extra for this "dealer alarm." Unless if it is free, it is a complete waste of money.

OR

2. It has a remote control which notifies you if the alarm is triggered.

Otherwise, don't waste your money. Car alarms that lacks the notification feature is useless. It gives you a false sense of security.

Seriously, do people pay attention to car alarms nowadays? I don't, and I haven't seen a random Joe run out and check out if someone's car is being broken into when the alarm is going off.

Bottom line, they will take it if they want it, so insure it.

However, I think lojack feature is good.

The alarm install is all on you... I cannot recommend anything really. I just got the VIP because I like staying with stock items. Otherwise I heard that Viper installs a good alarm.

I paid... $999 for my LoJack, I think. It was either $599 or $999 but I'm not sure since I'm at work right now. I know I paid invoice (dealer price) for it. I got LoJack Early Warning which is the high end model that notifys you via e-mail, cell phone, text, etc if your car has been moved if you don't have the LoJack keyfob with you when you are driving.

Any 07 Camry with keyless entry also has an mobilizer. Car will not start unless you use a special key with a encoded transponder.

You can add a "Toyota" Glass breakage sensor and alarm. When they install this they will activeate the "built in" but disabled alarm features such as opening a door when the system is armed will set off the horn.

I have the VIP RS3200 plus alarm with Glass Breakage Sensor.
If I did not have this installed for "free" as part of the sale price, I would probably go with a aftermarket alarm. I think the most important thing with aftermartket alarms is the quality of the install. Don't cheap out the the installers. Hire the best you can afford.

As far as I know the Toyota alarm does not include a shock sensor.

I agree, if I wouldn't have gotten my alarm installed for "free" that I would have gone with an aftermarket alarm, probably a paging alarm. But hey, it's free and I park in the garage all the time.

How much dod the VIP system cost you??
toyotapartspeople.com has it for $253 and glass breakage sensor for $85
I was planning on getting the remote start kit for $304 and was wondering if it included the VIP alarm system.

Can the VIP system be installed without the dealer. Sometimes after install Toyota needs to make additional settings with their scan tool.
