5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I'm having trouble transferring phone book data to my Camry hands-free system from my Bluetooth phone (a Treo 650), and I don't know whether the problem is at the Camry end or the Treo end. Maybe somebody can help?
Following the Camry's "2007 Navigation System Owner's Manual," pp. 121-122, I display the Phone Book Management screen, click the "Transfer Data" button, and continue following the directions till I display the Data Transfer screen with the message "Under transfer/Please transmit Phone Book data from the mobile phone." Then I go to the Treo, display the Contacts application, select a contact, choose a "Send Contact" command, and follow another step or two to make sure the contact will be sent via Bluetooth. And it is sent, the proof being that the Data Transfer screen in the Camry now reads "Transfer completed." But -- when I go to the phone book itself it turns out I've sent only the name of the contact, not the contact's phone number. So -- am I doing something wrong (and if so, at which end?), or is sending the name all that the Camry hands-free system permits?
I've already described this problem on a Treo bulletin board and maybe somebody will tell me that I'm doing something wrong at that end. If that turns out to be the case I'll report the fact here, in case anybody's interested.
A related question: Does Toyota provide any documentation of the Navigation System that's more thorough than the manual delivered with the vehicle? Is there a knowledge base online, as there is with many electronics manufacturers? It would be nice.

The most helpfull cell-phone/pda forum I have run into is www.howardforums.com . Based on what you described, I suspect the problem is in the way you transmit the contact info (using TREO's OPP). Ask the folks on howardforums, I am sure there are many treo experts there.
Make sure to post your carrier and Treo650 firmware revision. There has been several patches for Treo car bluetooth capabilities and they can be carrier specific.

Thanks, amh1, good lead. I posted my question to the thread there on Palm PDAs.
Another suggestion is to look at Prius sites, they have had the nav for longer time and may have worked out these issues already. For example, if you go to palm web site and look what car kits are supported, you will find Prius nav supported (but requires updater).
After starting this thread I found my way to a Lexus forum where someone had had a similar problem and tried his solution, and it worked. The solution was to remove all punctuation from the phone numbers in the cell phone address book before transferring them to the phone book of the car's handsfree system.
