Gen6 Going to get my CAM in 3wks and I need some TN Advice!!!!

Hey guys,

I will be purchasing my first brand-new car in 3 wks and I have seen some pretty interested comments here about problems encountered with the new Camry. I want to ask those of you who have the 07 Cam...if you could go back in time would you still buy the car? I really love the styling of the car, but I know its the first year of the new styling and other modified features, should I wait until next year for them to work out the flaws? Seems like alot of people here are having problems with noises from different areas in the car...ie...sunroof, center console when car is hot and A/C running, and so on. I have seen people having problems with MPG..saying the car is really bad on city driving. (This is a major issue for me because 80% of my driving will be city. This is my first big purchase and if I am going to be investing 20k+ into any product I should not have to deal with little noises creeking and bad gas mileage, I have to deal with enough of that in my 92 Diamante. I just want to know if this is a widespread problem or just limited to a few unlucky individuals...and if this is a major problem how did you fix the malfunctions? Were the dealerships helpful or did they uphold there reputations?

Do you see this as a quality car worth keeping around for 6-7+ years? Or just a one-night stand?

Is is worth getting the keyless entry with alarm upgrade or should I hold out for an after-market product? I really dont trust anyone, but the dealership, installing anything in a new model car until at least a year after the car drops, becase the various install kits will be widely spread for non-dealer installs. So I am really hesistant about getting my amplifiers and speakers installed.

Also guys, any advice on dealing with salesman or the buying process would be greatly appreciated. I am in the Houston area and I am looking to get the Black LE with Leather Ash interior, moonroof and body side moulding.

Should I go with the LE 4 or 6cyl?

If anyone got a good price in the greater Houston area please let me know......

Sorry for all the questions, but once again Im a noob....

Thanks for all of your responses in advance...Happy Camming!!!

HI Black_Cam...

Welcome to the forum.
I am a native Houstonian also so I will see If I can help with your questions.
Well, for starters the car in question is a Toyota Camry - THE number one selling car in the US. This ranking is given for many factors and reliability is in the top 5.
I would not let the transmission recall deter you from buying this car.
Read the transmission thread thoroughly and you will see that this issue is not even common to all automatic V6s.
Another thing to realize is that this is an automobile forum. Everything and anything related to the Camry will be discussed here. From the smallest rattle to the largest transmission issue.
In other words, don't let these things frighten you. Most cars have rattles of some sort. (My wife's new Honda Accord has a terrible rattle in the rear deck - arggghh!)
Oh yeah, search around for threads on gas mileage. They are out there also.

The next item - the alarm...
Honestly, I don't put a lot of thought into the alarm. I am happy with the factory alarm.
I am a car audio guy too so I understand that you want to protect your investment though.
FREE ADVICE - just be SMART with your system. Don't attract too much attention to it.
And be stealthy with the install. This is why I am going to keep the factory head unit and am just going to replace the speakers, amp and add a small sub eventually.
If a thief wants your system, they will get it no matter what kind of alarm you have.

Well, I am running out of time here so I will summarize the rest.

I have used Carsdirect.com to purchase our last 3 vehicles.
I love the fact that I do not have to haggle with the dealerships this way.
The local dealerships gave me an offer and I chose the best one. Simple as that.
By the way, I bought my LE from Fred Haas Toyotaworld. I couldn't be happier with my experience with them. They are very professional and friendly.
Check out their site and you will see that they have won many awards for service also.

V6 or 4 cyl???? That is something for you decide.
Part of me regrets not getting a V6 though ...

I hope this helps..... and Have Fun with your new Camry!

Hello Black_Cam 2007

First, welcome to TN, this is the place to be for info and advise for your new camry. Trust me, I learned alot from this forum.

Well, being one of the first with the tranny issue, disregard that I'm having all theses rattle/noise from the center dash and rear deck, I would definitely buy the camry all over again. I like the styling and the features they put in the car and for me the new camry is one of the best looking mid-size sedan out there right now. And the V6 is amazing, I love the power it has so I'm glad i didnt get the 4cl but that is up to you. As per the Toyota Website, there isnt to much of a gas mileage difference but reality you will see. Personally I wish my camry would get more then 25 mpg useally 80% parkway driving but it's ok.
The only think that was really frustrating to me was the tranny problem and overall I love the camry but just an advise and opinion. I would try getting a Japanese Camry cause it seems that the U.S build camry(like both of mine) have more defects and issues but it is just my opinion.

Summary: Overall I would buy a 07'Camry again but I would get a japanese build one.
Gotta love the camry

Personally, I think you should wait if you can. First, you'll save thousands of dollars if you decide to wait until next year. I would recommend getting a used car, which will save you even more. In terms of getting a 4 cylinder or v6, you'll need to test drive them. I've driven the SE v6, which is plain awesome. All I can say is it has power, control, and look. If you like a less tigther steering, then an XLE or LE trim would be good, but the SE has a better control during fast speed (70+). Nonetheless, this is my experience.

Hello,

I have the LE I4 and have been very happy with mine. I've had it for 1 month now and I haven't had any problems thus far. The only thing I've noticed was the fit on the center console compartment was slightly off. I wouldn't have noticed but folks around here were complaining about that and so I checked mine. Doesn't bother me though... you have to get face right in there to see it. As far as mileage, I've only filled up once and that tank gave me 24.8mpg (mostly in town driving). I was hoping for a little better as I'm pretty gentle on the acceleration.

Good luck.

SEE! Sometimes it is dangerous to read this forum....
It will make you go out and check your car for things you would have probably never noticed before.

Seriously though, I have learned alot from this forum also (like the fact that I can change my grille to a hybrid grille - WOOHOO!)

HOLY CR@P! - the rear looks just like a Hyundai Sonata.
The front looks good though.

But, I'd have to say that I like our version better.

Yeah...slim_El one of the first modifications I will be looking into is the side mirrors with the blinker lights, it adds more of a luxurious look to the car.

If I find out some info I will let you know.

Hi Black-Cam,

I got mine 07 XLE 6 weeks ago. There have been some quality issues but the dealer took care them.

I got a good deal on the one I ordered, close to 2K off because I searched dealers on the internet and found several that would give me a discount. I then went to the dealer and after they gave me the NO DISCOUNT price I showed them wht I could get from another dealer. They didn't want to loose my bussines and gave me the price.

The dealer I used, which was 50 miles up the road, is www.lascrucestoyota.com You could check other dealers in your area on Toyotas website. Las Cruces is in New Mexico, But just tell the your dealer if they hesitate you would not mind driving the 1600 miles round trip to save 2K

I have my '07 SE since the 4th of April. I haven't had any of the problems these other owners have. This is my first Toyota. I'm very happy with it and would buy another in a New York minute!
