Gen6 disadvantages of bigger wheels on 07 Camry CE?

Hey everybody,

I'm new to the forum and am getting an 07 CE with manual transmission in a couple weeks. I plan on doing a lot of upgrades and I know from reading the threads that alot of people on here have upgraded to bigger wheels. I'm thinking about going to 17" or maybe even the 18" TRDs and was wondering if anyone who has done this has noticed a significant drop in ride quality. I figure that the ride is necessarily gonna be a little bit harder with bigger wheels, but since it's so floaty to begin with I wondered if the change might be negligible. Anyway I would greatly appreciate any feedback or advice from anyone with experience in this department.

Thanks,

Dogmael

although i have no experience in the 6th gen model, the typical standard is that the bigger the rims, the harsher the ride. however, that really depends on the type of tyres that you get as well. witha bigger diameter, the ascpet ratio of the tire will be smaller hence giving you less rubber bertically to ride on. this would cause a bit of a bumpier ride. but if you can get nice tyres, that will be offsetted a bit. give it a shot and you'll see.

I went from 15s to 17s on my Camry and the ride wasn't affected drastically. It is a bit harsher, but it is not uncomfortable.

Thanks guys- my dealer offered to mount the 18"s with Yokohama tires. My other option is to get some 17" SE wheels on ebay for a bit of a compromise...

you're gonna hear more road noise (especially when your tires are more worn)

You should find out the weight of those 18's. Weight plays a big difference in performance/handling.

Change for a bigger wheel? If you go to a size not recommended by toyota - theres a good chance it could screw up both your ABS operation (i knew i guy this it happened to when he changed the rear axle ratio on his dodge truck), and your speedo reading could be wrong too.
