My SE didn't Come with the auto-dimming rear view mirror W/compass. I called today to get a price for one at my dealer. They quoted me a price of $600+ . Then they told me it wouldn't work unless I had the navigation system. I contacted Purich Inc. who had installed a sunroof for me years ago in my pickup. They quoted me a $350 price installed for an autodimming mirror w/compass and temperature readings. Since they are only fifteen minutes away from me I drove over there and checked it out. Looks great! Having it installed next week. They now have a website in case anyone in the NY metro area is interested, They also do custom interior work on Toyota Camrys' www.electricsunroof.com
Your dealer is feeding you a load of crap, but what's new.

Dude like Njerald said ''your dealer is feeding you a load of crap'' there're some people that actually open their mouth to say a bunch of nonsense or to try to rip you off, i know some people that don't even know where they're standing right now!.......i Don't have the OEM navigation system on my camry and i DO have the rear-view mirror w/ the compass, so talk to that dumbass again and tell him to do some research before he says something HE'S NOT 100% SURE OF!
Tint.............................................. .................................................. ..... $140
Compass from Autozone.......................................... .............................. $5
Not having overpaid for something so useless........................................... .priceless
If the Toyota mirror/compass doesn't work without the navigation system, the cheapest price won't help me. I'm satisfied with the one I'll have installed next week. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.
technically , toyota or any mirror/compass will work with or without a car, all you need just supply a 12Volt to it, independent from any navigation or anything.
but if toyota sales insist they can only sell you mirror/compas with navigation system, probably because toyota only package auto dim/compass with navigation system, and their goal is in the market to make money.

I think the moron who works the parts counter can't read . It took him !0 minutes to get me a price and suggest that it wouldn't work without the Navigation system. I've always tried to shop for genuine parts when they were available, but now I have a sour taste in my mouth

No doubt you've heard that guys will never ask directions when they're lost. With a compass I don't have to ask. A mirror with a compass and temperature reading and automatic dimming feature is cool.
2) Take your time shopping for the part, ebay, toyotaparts4u.com, partznet.com, etc I have a list of online places (Toyota) where you can get discounted parts
3)Don't go darker than 20% nor lighter than 35%.
Good luck. Jon. ps. for $280 I just got my parents a new Magellan 360 GPS system =) , better than a compass

For that price i'd hire a midget to flip the mirror up and down and for the remaining $100 i'd buy a GPS receiver (the midget would navigate too)

Just fill out the request form for the part you are looking for and they will email you the part # and price.
A part that may cost $100 from the dealer will be roughly $65 from them.
Just be patient on waiting for an answer - they are not the quickest to reply.
Takes about 3-4 days.
