Gen6 Tip Tronic

I just got my car on friday. A magnetic gray le v6. I'm loving it, still babyin it to break the car in i got around 360 miles on it now. Just got a quick question for those of you with the v6's out there. When shiftin with the Tip Tronic, whether its shifting up or down do u let go of the gas at all?... might be a stupid question but its my first car with tip tronic and im not exactly sure on how it works.

Also so, what width of a 19 inch rims would fit without rubbing. Anyone know offsets and tire sizes?

Gen6 tiptronic ("S shift mode")

The short answer is: There is no need to let off the gas.

The long explanation is: The transmission is electronic--there's no actual direct linkage between the transmission shifter and the transmission itself as would be the case with a manual transmission. The shifter is merely a control that tells one of many computers what position you want the transmission in. The computer is what actually does the shifting.

That said, even in "S mode" you aren't really even directly controlling many shifts. For example, in S mode "4", you're not telling it to shift into 4th gear. You're telling it to shift into "4th range", meaning the computer will determine "the most appropriate gear in the range of first through fourth gears".

This generally has the effect of downshifting if you're already in a gear that's higher, or "allowing an upshift to take place under the right conditions" if you're currently in a lower gear.

The tranny is doing nothing different than it would do if you were just in "D".

SuperManCK has 19"x8.5" wheels with 245/40/19 tires without rubbing or any issues whatsoever. If I remember correctly, his offset was 35.
