Gen6 What 6x9's fit in the rear?(non-JBL) Seem to be conflicting answers!

Quote:
(Whitenoize)You have to realize that the stock speakers are 6x9 BUT with very shallow basket\magnet depth.
If you were to pop in most aftermarket 6x9s, they would not fit because of the depth required.
This is why Crutchfield says that they do not have any 6x9s that fit the 07

I personally would recommend that you replace the fronts with 6 1/2" Components.
You will probably have to have an audio shop cut some MDF adapters to allow the smaller diameter drivers to fit in the holes.

(adrand)LOXELYLOVE- can you please describe the installation of the Memphis audio speakers on your '07 Camry? I have been told by crutchfield that there is no chance of getting aftermarket speakers to fit in the 07 Camry's stock speaker locations. They say the mounting depths won't work. Did you have any fitment problems? Did you do the install yourself? Thanks for any info you can offer!

(loxelylove) I took the car in to a pro installer in my area (use a small shop instead of a large electronics store because they will usually explain and allow you to see how the work is done). My understanding is that the only thing they had to fab was a spacer/mount for the front door speakers since I didn't replace them with 6x9s. Everything else fit w/o any issue. The fit issue I'm sure would come in if you decided to put 6x9s in the door. I used 6" round component speakers since the mounting depth was a little less.
Someone posted a similiar questions but no one answered...http://toyotanation.com/forum/t151316.html `I know somebody upgraded their speakers from the factory radio.

Since there seems to be conflicting answers here can someone clarify things for me.....
For the Factory system in the 07...what 6x9's are you guys using in the rear? And for those of you who have added Subwoofers and Amp..did your installer run into any problems or set backs? I would like to know because i will be getting my car soon and will probably leave straight from the dealer to the stereo shop.

Speakers

Generally speaking 6x9s are 6x9s... essentially what changes what you want to do is the mounting. For some vehicles you can mount on top, meaning that more of the speaker sticks above the rear 'dash'... my 2007 Camry looks to be bottom-mounted (under the dash).

You can use Crutchfield to get the speakers you need and use their 'What fits in my car' feature, or you could even simply take your vehicle to a local Mickey Shore / Circuit City / Best Buy / etc and you can have their install techs look at it if that would make you feel more comfortable. Quite honestly though just look in your trunk at the speakers and you'll see they are quite standard.

For the amp and subwoofer question, all depends on how much customization you want to do. You could take a box and simply put all your gear in the trunk. Or, you could buy a specialized subwoofer and cut into the rear dash and mount it so the top fires into the cab and the bottom fires into the trunk. Also depends on the kind of sound you want. For the dash-mount I just mentioned you'll want a free-air subwoofer which arent really known for sound quality and require quite a bit of power... but the box is very easy, requires a bit less power (amp) and more often than not a better sound. But then... there are bandpass boxes too... lol

Good luck... write if you have more Qs.
