Gen5 Plus-Sizing your wheels - rule of thumb?

As far as getting bigger wheels, here's what Consumer Reports said...

"Some plus-size wheels and tires live up to their image. Our tests of plus-one, plus-two, and plus-three wheels with common-model tires show that increasing wheel diameter 1 inch--or one plus size--offers the greatest benefit in overall performance. After that, you're likely to pay for small gains in grip and handling with big losses in ride comfort, hydroplaning resistance, and snow traction."

here's the whole article: http://www.roadandtravel.com/consume...ssizetires.htm

If my OEM wheels are 15", then I should get 16" wheels for the BEST performance? So does that mean 17", 18", or 19" wheels for the Camry is merely for styling without much performance? Just wondering because I was deciding between getting 16" & 17" wheels. Anything bigger is too big for my taste. What are your guys' opinions? Thnx...

I think it depends on the rims you get. The stock rims can sometimes be heavy, but by replacing them wwith lighter rims that may be +1 or +2 you could be gaining more handling. Ofcourse if you go with a plus size you'll have to go with lower profile tires so that your speedometer won't be way out of wack. When you go from balloon tires to lower profile with a much higher rating you're going to get more traction and have more of a racing feel.

Stick with 15"s or 16"s if you are all into performance. For half show/go, choose 17"s. For you, anything above 18"s would be all show. But if you get light weight wheels, it's a different story. Some light weight wheels are Volks, Gram Lights, G-Games, SSR, certain 5zigen's, and so on. If you do go for light weight wheels, be prepared to pay a pretty penny.
