The Menu -> Volume Top -> Left, Bottom Left (repeated) procedure does not work on my NAV v 6.1. Anyone know of the procedure to override it?
Sorry, I can't help you with this problem. I would like to know about the Nav v 6.1. I have a XLE with a build date of 4/06 and it has the v5.1 in it. Could you tell me what the build date is on you vehicle? It would sure make me a little disgusted to think that there is an updated version already. I have noticed a lot of inconsistencies with the v5.1 around my neck of the woods.
My car was made in July and also and is 5.1. You sure it is 6.1? Also make sure you touch the right spots, they don't make any noise.First couple times didn't work for me either.
1. Hit the "MENU" button (from the left column of options next to your navi screen).
2. Choose "VOLUME" on the screen (should be the middle option on the top row)
3. Press the following areas on your navi screen in this order within a few seconds of each other:
a. upper left part of the screen (on the speaker icon, to the left of where it shows "VOLUME")
b. lower left part of the screen (it's blank, but there's a hidden function there)
Yes, my DVD says 6.1 and the override procedure does not work whatsoever. Mine is a Hybrid. There's a black sticker with a barcode on the Driver's Door Jamb that says 08/06 at the top right of the sticker, so I'm assuming I have an August 06 build date? I don't really know where to read the build date from.
We just bought a new Sienna Limitted which has the Nav 6.1 and I have tried just about every recommended sequence to get to the override screen and nothing works. I have also just tried a bunch of similar sequences hoping to stumble upon it. Things like backwards (i.e. LL, UL, LL, UL) and doing the sequence in other screens. So far nothing has worked.
It seems like this screen would be used by service departments and the screen would not have been removed. So I am still hopeful. It would seem like once the service departments have the sequence, it should makes its way to the forum.
Does anyone know who manufacturers this Navigation system for Toyota? Perhaps there is a way to find it out by researching tech postings to that company rather than searching Toyota forums.
I did read on some posting that there is a hardware solution that someone sells a wire harness that bypasses the speed sensor wire. So the nav unit is physically unaware that the vehicle is moving. That sounds like it would still work with the 6.1 nav, but I don't want to do a hardware modification if a simple software solution exists.

hi,
i have the same question. my gf has an 07 is350 and she too has a newer version of the dvd software which was what i was curious about. the display is a little different in general. hopefully the camry will have an updated dvd software version. BUT can someone with certainty say that the DVD system is the same 5th gen system in ALL the lexus vehicles?? thanks.
The Nav system in the Lexus's is not the same in every model. The more you spend the more features you get. With the LS series you get the built in Nav/Traffic with real time traffic info.
They are all pretty similar, but they are not all the same.

is the navigation the same as the ES model at least. Do you know? thanks.
I keep searching and trying different things. I found in another thread some joystick based Nav that has a different sequence to get to the Service / Override screen and they say it works with the version 6.1 maps, but since it uses the joystick it does not apply to the touchscreen. I also found that Coastaletech.com makes wire harnesses to bypass the speed sensor wire (so the nav doesn't sense the car is moving. This sounds like it would work to me, but their site it confusing in terms of what cables allow what features and I cannot tell if they have a cable that allows navigation while in motion for the Sienna. I called my dealer's service department and they said if you have a problem that requires getting to the service screen they need to call Toyota technical assistance (something only dealers can do) and get instructions on how to get to that screen. They also said that there are no customer level functions on that screen, there would be no reason to go there. You would think paying nearly $40,000 for a minivan would get you dealers who were willing to help you do whatever you can to make the vehicle more enjoyable. I don't understand how Toyota is able to control this information so well. If service guys need to know it how do they keep them from leaking the information. The thing I really don't understand is how a company like Toyota who is so sensitive to quanity of customer care and is so good at creating luxury products based on what the consumer wants can be so stupid on this Navigation issue. Clearly customers want to allow their passenger to use the navigation system while the car is in motion. Other manufactureres allow it, All the aftermarket units allow it. Using phone features via the touchscreen may be dangerous, but not as dangerous as fumbling with your handset which are what they are forcing us to do if we are so intent on using the phone. I just use the voice commands for the phone, but it is a struggle to learn how to make the most of this system when I cannot play with it while I am the passenger on various trips. They only time I can get better with it is while at stoplights or while idling in my driveway. Toyota really missed the boat on this one. I find it unbelieveablely frustrating.
My only hope is that someone in one of these forums will have found a way into the service / override screen for the 6.1 version. Otherwise the commercials for TomTom look pretty good. At least we won't have to pull over to set a new destination when on a family trip. How many people buy minivans who never have any passengers. If we didn't have to haul kids around I would be driving a two seater.
“Typically the DVD mapping database is updated once a year, usually in the fall. It’s not mandatory to upgrade, but in some areas new cities, streets, and addresses are added every year. See your Toyota dealer for complete details.
To determine what version map is currently installed in your Toyota press the menu button, then press the map DVD button. A screen will be displayed that indicates the version being utilized by your Toyota. Please note that the DVD map information contained in your Toyota is finalized before a vehicle production starts for a model year. This means the map version indicator indicated on the screen will not correspond to the model year of your Toyota. This DVD map database is updated yearly. Check with your dealer for the availability of the latest update. “

Therein lies the problem. The dealer had no clue to a newer version. Let me rephrase that....3 dealers, all of respectable reputations....had no clue.
