Only available with the 4 banger and yes they are rare. I know, I have an 02. They are worth searching for, the 5-speed makes a big difference in fun factor.
Check it out:

I don't think that they are that bard to find...andyes they only come in 4 banger model. When my family were in the search for a the camry, we just went staright down to cerritos auto square and they had like 2 or 3 models of the i4 in stick. oNe was the lunar mist, the other was the pahntom grey, and i forgot the other color. I've actually seen quite a few on the road that were stick as well. BUt regardless do your search, call around. and i'll guratneed you'll be happy with it. Oh and its awesome when people drive with you and they are like STICK....IN A CAMRY, lol
I am finding that Gen 4 5 spd is nice, but underpowered.
I heard that there was a quality decline in trim berween Gen 4 and 5, is that true? What are some of the issues to watch out for with Gen 5? 5 spd naturally.
The only issue I have with mine is some dashboard vibrations under certain circumstances. Nothing I can't live with. Drivetrain is very smooth, shifts nice and has good power for a 4. The VVT-i gives this engine a lot more power from 4000-6000 rpm than the Gen4. I average 28 mpg in all around driving with an easy 35 mpg hiway at 75-80. All 5-speed Gen5 Camrys are built in Japan which I think gives them better build quality than Kentucky. The SE suspension is a good improvement over LE/XLE and my TRD sway bar makes it even better. I say find one and drive it. You can talk about it all you want but won't know till you take one out for a test drive!

I do notice that vibartion or rattle...mostly from the rear panel(in my case). Shifting has a very positive feeling. And if youguys out there with the stick version. i recomend getting the twm shiffter...great add on. Great overall power, nothing to complain about...except for the fact that my arm rest gets in the way of the shifter in some positions. Its like the armrest is too high. BUt nothign i can't live with.
