Any update, crabjoe.

I just got the call that the steering shaft in and will bring the car in tomorrow morning. Dropped the car for them to test-drive last Wednesday, return free rental last Saturday so the turn-around part ordering is 3 biz days (in Mass.). Will update later.

Folks,

Sorry to report back so late, but I'm sitting here are the dealer waiting for them to install the new shaft, an oil change and the hesitation TSB. I'll get back with a report on their fix, but give me a couple days because I want to get some miles on it to make sure the fixed worked.

As for the person asking if mine only happens when I brake.. Mine happens all the time, but most noticable when driving on residential area or in a parking lot. I also feel it when I brake or accelerate. It's just as noticable when then car is at highway speeds.

Update

Picked up my SE on Saturday and everything seems OK around 250 miles. My dealer replaced the steering shaft and did the alignment. Kudo to the service manager who test-drove the car b4 delivery. I'll keep my eyes (ears) on the steering for next 1k miles.

for now.

Hey, I think I've got the steering wheel clunks, too!

And, my car actually GROANED while I was getting out of the driveway this morning!!

I've noticed a wee bit of clunkiness at the very extreme end of the steering wheel travel for about two or three weeks now, and I heard some kind of strange sound when getting out of the driveway a few days ago. This morning, I heard two or three very noticeable groans while I was backing out of my driveway and turning to go down the street.

All of this is at "backing out of the garage or parking spot" speeds -- just barely moving. And, most of it is at the very extreme ends of the steering wheel (and thus front wheel) turning radius, and it's by far most noticeable while turning to the right.

I'll give it just a few more days to see if I get more groaning, as the next few days will be too busy to visit the dealer, but I do expect to hit the dealer's service department next week to have this fixed. Not "checked," not "ignored" ("We couldn't duplicate the problem," meaning they are clueless morons) -- but FIXED, dang it. So, we shall see how that goes.

1st let me say my 1st Toyota experiance is the PITS and I doubt I will buy another Toyota after I get rid of this one. With that said, my clunking is gone other then a slight tap I feel at times when I press the brakes.

Now, here's the thing, with the clunking, clicking or whatever gone, I now have no horn and only found out when this girl cut out in front of me when I was in the merge lane. I hit the horn and nothing happens. I can't believe her passanger had the nerve to flip me the bird when they cut me off gettinginto the merge lane to pass the person in front of them. I was about to get in front of them then stop to give them a piece of my mind, but I didn't want to stop traffic on I95. BTW, I know my horn was working in the past because I used it 3 weeks ago due to a deer in the road.

Oh another thing, I think my front passanger wheel bearing are now going bad. There's this bend I do around leaving my neighborhood that has a slight sloop. When I go around this bend at 25 mph, I get this ever so slight groan/vib from that wheel.

Someone please tell me that most of these Camry's arn't having all these problems mine is having. Not only do I have no horn at this time and the vib, the dealer has to replace my driverside door panel because they damaged it when they were replacing the steering shaft.

Toyota, atleast to me, SUX!!!

Update on mine:

Well, I just don't know yet. It could be more "brakes" than "steering" or anything else. I've noticed just the teensiest little bit of clunking on the wheel, and a groan here or there, but I can't say that I didn't have my foot on the brake every time I've heard or felt anything. Also, we're just entering the "rainy season," and all of this could be just the usual water on the brakes.

Bottom line, it's got to get a whole lot worse than this before I'll take it to the dealer -- if I can barely hear or feel anything, they sure aren't going to notice it!

I'll keep adding to this thread should any developments develop....
