Aftermarket parts and factory warranty

I found this guys and I want it to share with the ones that didn't know....

It is commonly thought that the installation of aftermarket parts will void the factory warranty, The Magnusson-Moss Warranty - Federal Trade commission Improvement Act of 1975 protects consumers from such fraudulent activity by new car dealers. Under the Act, aftermarket equipment that improves performance does not void a vehicle manufacturer’s original warranty, unless the warranty clearly states the addition of aftermarket equipment automatically voids your vehicle's warranty or if it can be proven that the aftermarket device is the direct cause of the failure. The easiest way to check this is to look in your owner’s manual under, "what is not covered".

Yup that's right! Don't let the dealer's lack of knowledge fool you in regards to warranty.

What aftermarket parts!?

There has to be parts available first before we even worry about warranties! The Camry gets no love from Aftermarket goodies! Or it just takes a long time for them to pop up!

My dealer told me that if I bought a Toyota OEM NAV unit from ebay and installed it myself, Toyota would not warrant it even though it's a Toyota part, since the NAV wasn't installed at the factory or the port.

So, if something went wrong with my new $2100 Toyota OEM NAV unit, I'm out $2100. Yikes

It makes me think twice about spending so much money for an item that essentially has no warranty. I'd rather go to Tweeter (or another 3rd party installer) and have them put in a 3rd party NAV unit, since they would warrant the hardware and their installation work. In fact, that's exactly what my dealer recommended to me.
