Quick New Car Question

Hey I am about to pick up my car tomorrow and have to drive 5 hrs back to school. I was wondering what the speed limitation is for the break in period...and for how many miles is it.

I thought it is 55mph for the first 1000 miles?

THANKS GUYS!!!

During break in I vary speeds at 50-55-60-65 while on the highway for the first 1000 miles.
Don't stay at one speed.

Just don't drive your new car aggresively for the first 1000 miles.

The manual says not to keep the car at a steady speed or something like that. Yesterday I the guy at the dealer and I did a test drive of my car, and getting on the freeway he just steped on all the way, I was like DUDE, what are you doing???? It only has 650 miles on it..His awnser was: Ohh don't worry, this engines come way overprotected....All I know is: That sucker is not touching my car anymore . There are different ways, I can't tell which one is safe. There is this one : http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm, the original manual, this one: http://www.enginesonly.com/break-in.html, and this one too: http://www.faqfarm.com/Q/How_should_you_'break-in'_a_new_car, me personally until yestarday follow the manual.

Thanks Joe B.
I don't think you're gonna damage your car even if you do 90mph. When I bought my new car I had to travel 65 miles and I was doing 85mph, I forgot to do this break-in thingie, coz I was so excited and did not notice I was this fast already. And yes I did not do any break-in with my car like some people would suggest, and my car seems fine, save the occasional hesitations issue.

I personally do not think it needs to be done with new cars these days. I drove city roads for the first almost 500 miles at slow exceleration and then was like screw it. I don't plan on having any problems because of it. I have never in the past on new cars. If anything I need to be worrying about having tranny problems. These problems do not seem to be related to not breaking in the engine. Just my own thoughts. Everybody is going to do what they think is best for them anyway.

Highway speed probably doesn't matter all that much -- 10 MPH faster is only a few more RPM's, so no worries there at all. Just drive "gently" for the first 1,000 miles -- no flooring it and nonsense like that -- and do try to vary your speed a bit. Actually, even that said -- again, the difference between 60 MPH and 70 MPH is just a few RPM -- the "varying speed" is more of a "put some pressure on the engine" relatively often, if you can. So, probably hitting all of the rest areas for potty breaks would be a good thing, as would stopping at all of the fast-food joints along the way. Each time you would hit an on-ramp to get back onto the freeway would be a good thing!

http://www.enginesonly.com/break-in.html, Ive been using this method and only floored it a couple times over 800miles only cause i had to merge in and were im from people tend to not let you in so it sucked. But im now at 900+ miles and hoping to get my oil change in soon since i have rare times to do so. But ive been keepin it from 55-70 on the high slowly moving up and down. Anyways the dealer told me not to exceed 70 until after 1000 miles and not to use cruise control till after 1000miles, he also said not to run it hard alot maybe once or twice for the break in till 1000miles then he said after the oil change drive it normally.
