Gen5 Quick Alarm Questions

I got a couple of dumb alarm questions. When your alarm is armed or going off, is it normal for the car to not start if you try to turn the key in the ignition? Before I thought that the alarm just sounded off and the car could start if a thief tried to hotwire it. I was just wondering if this was a mild form of engine kill installed on all Gen5 Camrys with factory alarms. I noticed that I have an alarm system that appeared to be installed at the dealer after the car was already assembled because the led is not located by the AC controls but instead to the left of my steering wheel. It still chirps just like any other Toyota alarm installed. Thanks for the replies.

In Many aftermarket alamrs it is normal. I had a Jeep with Factory alarm that would start. But most aftermarket will actually have a starter kill.
