5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Since there are eight billion threads going on about this tranny or that, V6 vs. 4cyl. how about we have a dedicated thread just for the V6 automatic transmission issues and nothing else ?
This way it will be a good reference point for newbs thinking about buying one and so others that are going to buy one have a thread to look in and reference before they go test drive. This way we al know where and when to look when we are out test driving. I know it will help clear things up for me too.
So anyone that is knowledgable about the V6 ONLY transmission issue please post it in here. Maybe copy/paste from a prior thread, whatever.
This will also make it easier when people are doing the searches.
Here are the items I think would be very helpful:
1. What speed does it happen ?
2. What RPM does it happen ?
3. What gears is it happening in ?
4. Does it when cold or warmed up ?
5. What to listen for ?
6. What to watch for ?
7. What is the TSB fix ?

HI, were you the one that had told me that a newly manufactured tranmission was going to be placed in the 07 camry v6 to replace the old transmission that was causing the spiking?
THanks.
And if not, can the person who has information about this please post...
2. What RPM does it happen ?
2,000RPM,, which spikes to 2,500 rpm to 4,000 rpm
3. What gears is it happening in ?
2 to 3 for me, for both cars. Though TSB is for 3 to 4.
4. Does it when cold or warmed up ?
Blue one did it cold and warmed up; but mostly within 10 mins of a cold start. Blue car spiked every day I drove it (after the new tranny) no matter how hot is was outside.
Silver one just started spiking; it spikes within 10 mins of being cranked.
5. What to listen for ?
You will hear it and feel it. There is no need to try and listen,, it is unmistakable. It is like someone pushed in a clutch and kept foot on the gas but and forgot to let of clutch after shifting gears. Give me a week,,,, I will have video of spikin soon... (unless I trade this car in by then)
6. What to watch for ?
Rpm gauge
7. What is the TSB fix ?
A waste of time and parts,,,, from what I have read it does not work.

i think the title says v6.. and i think it is in the US, since i dont think any camry were build in japan except for a few XLEs in the very beginning. majority should be made in the US.

well i'm just asking cuz the ones that are at the dealership by me have the hooks, which means that they were shipped from japan and they weren't the XLE's...the first one that dealership got was from Japan..v6 fully loaded...no spike!

Ours was a Japan early build Camry and it blew. The 2nd one was a Kentucky one and it blew.
I bought a new 2007 Camry SE V6 6 speed automatic manufactured in Kentucky 08/06 on 10/16/06. At about 1200 miles it began doing the 3rd to 4th gear slip when shifting. I was informed of TSB TC008-06 on another forum. My Camry shifts just as described in this TSB, except it only does it once when cold, then works normally after that, until the next time it's been allowed to sit again.
I was going to take it to my dealer until I've been reading of other people's experiences in taking it in, and it not being fixed, and many times ending up worse than when it was brought in in the first place.
Does anybody know if a definite fix for this problem has been found?
If not, I plan to continue just letting off the gas when it shifts from 3rd to 4th the first time after starting up cold.
My V6 (There's only one model available in HK) gearbox seem slightly slipped when it's cool start, usually it happens when the gearbox switch from 3rd gear to 4th gear. It's only a brief slippage that will last less than 1 second. I cannot feel this when the car has been running to the working temperature.

This may sound silly, but check the transmission fluid level. There have been a few people who discovered low fluid level and when filled up, drove very well. That said, the fact that you seem to only have a "problem" on a cold engine, would suggest to me that it's not an issue.
