5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Instead of recapping the whole thing, here is a link to the story I already posted here on the site in case you did not see it.
Bottom line I got screwed after waiting almost three moths for the car. They would not honor the sign agreement with deposit once the car arrived. They wanted $2,600 more and got down to $1,600 more by doing me a favor.
I read your story and feel for you. I am very suprised that Toyota Corp. did now force the dealer to honor your original contract. I would have expected Toyota to begin building your car exactly as ordered asap and have it delivered, all based on your original signed agreement.
It does not sound like Toyota is doing the right/fair thing, unless you have additional details why your dealership is jerking you around.

I would guess that the written sales contract (if there was one) was specific and gave them a legal right to raise the price.
The buyer agreed with and signed (maybe) what was on the contract.
If it isn't as I said above, then the dealer couldn't uphold his price change in court.
Should it happen? No, but it is a legal document that supercedes an verbal conversations/understandings..

Buyer (as always) Beware!
It's funny, the other thread had people second guesses me about the contract. I will take a pic. of it and post it later since I am growing tired of people questioning it.
Newsflash, Toyota dealers can be asshats they are not a cut above and immune to being asshats. I have experienced it first hand.
Are there ways from them to get out of it ? I am sure of it but I do not do business that way with my company so I expect the same honor system out of others.
Do I have any legal avenues to take on it ? Probably but I hate attorney's more than I do car dealers in this case and why would I want to go that route to get a friggin car ?
Screw em', that is the bottom line. And I will go out of my way for quite a while to show them my displeasure.

Hehehehe. We can just imagine what that contract might or might not say, but we hear you -- they can and will weasel out of it no matter what it says, if they so desire. Indeed, how many people are going to take legal action against them in such a matter -- odds are that nobody ever will.
Though, you might look into small claims court -- I'm not sure about the parameters around that in your area, or what that contract exactly says, but it'd sure be some sweet revenge to get some damages dough out of them!
In the end, this is the kind of thing that goes on so often that car dealers remain the most despised businesses in the country. And, to put it into perspective, there are all kinds of folks in here who have reported just really fine relations with their dealers. For crying out loud, it's really not that hard at all to keep customers satisfied!!
At any rate, "good luck" getting your hands on a car that you really like, and finding a good dealer to buy it from!
I know this Ford dealer in my area where a guy signed off on on a truck ( F-250) and expected the dealer to PAY off his trade and didn't understand that the remainder of the previous load gets rolled into the new deal or something to that affect. So he signed off on the deal anyway and then accused the dealer of cheating him. His response to that was to take his new truck and paint on the side of it "I WILL NEVER BUY A TRUCK FROM SO N' SO EVER AGAIN', and he parked across the street from the dealer everyday for like a month trying to discourage people from going there.
A number of yeras before that another angry customer that supposedly got cheated at a local Dodge dealer did something even more elaborate. He had an older conversion van that he towed along this tralier with a large sign on it. The trailer was decked out with all kinds of negative comments about the dealer, I think he towed that thing around for about six months.
So there are ways to get your point across w/o the legal system, as long as whatever you do is whithin the comfines of the law. I'm just glad I worked at the dealer that I buy from, no hassle always invoice I buy at. Sorry for your troubles.
That dealer deserves a swift kick in the nuts........

I am already thinking about getting a old busted up Camry, painting it pink, and parking it in front or near the dealership on a Sunday morning before a Bucs game since they are located on the same road and only blocks from the stadium. The majority of the traffic goes right by the dealership in route to the games.

I feel for you turboman. I went through an awful experience with Toyota of tampa Bay. They were so dumb and had no idea what was going on. Finally got most of the issues resolved with the help of the owner and Toyota Customer Service(awful). Guess I should have bought from SunToyota.
Got mine from Sun Toyota, probably the best auto buying experience I've ever had, sorry about your luck, sounds like a bunch of tools over there at Stadium Toyota.
I don't think that most of the individuals were questioning the contract. It was more the question of how legaly binding the contract may be. By law, any car purchase is not permanant for 24 hours from the date of purchase. That means that either side has the option to opt out. Any money down will be lost, but the buyer or seller can get out of the deal. A preorder will be different, but I am sure that there are things the buyer must be aware of. I do feel your pain for the experience. I fully agree that you should be vocal about it to us, the dealer, and Toyota Corporate. I just don't see where legal actions would be validated without seeing your first agreement. It should also be known that toyota corporate is not responsible for the actions of the dealers. They should be informed (so that they might pressure them) but the dealor purchased and sold the car. Not toyota. I am in the process of deciding what to do with my current dealor as well. I have had nothing but dissapointment for the past four months. My previous dealor (after moving) is nearly 45 miles farther than the current one. In the end, I am sure that I will simply bite the extra miles and go to where I am appreciated and treated fairly. But in the mean time, maybe we should create a post for dealers. Give a brief list of our experiences and if we would recommend them.

I bought mine from Gettel Toyota in Bradenton (by Sarasota airport) and it was also the best auto buying experience I've had
I drove 4.5 hours for it too since there was no manual Gen5 in SE Florida with low miles at the time
