5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ive seen a lof of posts about the 6x9's, however, i haven't seen anything about the dash speakers. Circuit City's website says that 3.5 inch speakers will fit but jbl's website says they are 65mm (2.56 inch). Anyone had any experience replacing the dash speakers or know what should fit?
I'm am also interested in upgrading the dashboard speakers in my SE. I have the JBL system and I want to keep all of the vocals, mids and highs on the dash like it is now.
Car toys of course tried to sell me a set of standard separates that would move the soundstage downward.
Sounddomain.com says that they are 3.5" coaxials, so I was considering the Infiniti Kappas.
The other tricky part of upgrading the the new Camry stereo is finding 6x9s that play only midbass and don't have a tweeter on them.
It looks like it is going to be a tricky system to upgrade while keeping the stock speaker sizes and locations.
gjwoodx, for your desire to not have tweeters in the doors, ive seen some posts of people using 6 1/2 speakers in the doors by using a 6x9 to 6.5 convertor (this also helps with the mounting depth problem since 6.5's have about 1inch shorter mounting depths)...what if you purchased a set of 6.5 components and then used to crossover for the woofer but simply dont install the tweeter or if it is possible you might even be able to locate the tweeter up on the dash. An even simpler option would be to install whatever speakers you want in the doors even if they have a tweeter, but install an inline filter to remove the high frequency filter, the filter should be $10 or so.
I have a 09 camry with base audio system. And, I have question about the front tweeter why they don't really produce any sound? Do you guys know how can I test it?
I replaced the dash tweeters with aftermarket Infinity Kappas. Once you get in there to peek, you'll see there's a great deal of bottom depth for mounting space. In fact, The Kappas come with a crossover, I was able to acnhor that in the bottom of the dash hole first and then mount my tweeter.
Your only issue will be with moutning adapters/brackets for aftermarket speakers. There is nothing available for this; therefore, you'll have to make your own. Not that difficult. I have a DIY pic spread on what I did if you're interested.
Where can I find the DIY pic spread, I have 07 camry and want to replce the dash spe

The tweeter in the dash is a bit of a bad design because of the way it points up at the hard glass window.
For imaging reasons, it's usually best to keep the tweeter and the mid as close together as possible.
Very subjective. Would you rather have your highs firing above shoulder length or have them mounted down low next to the mid firing at your knees? The A-Pillar on the other hand is a great spot to mount tweeters.

i agree, i personally like the dash speakers cuz the sound reflects off the windshield towards you, thats why they put them there
camry stock tweeters are fine, they actually too good for stock door speakers.try to add sound insulation and replaced door speakers, you'll feel difference right away.

Putting the tweeters inside the door mirror cause all kinds of imaging weirdness when I tried it.
