LED only for hybrid?

hello, me and my wife are planning on buying a camry, preferably the LE and was wondering if the taillights are LED?

we searched for pictures and we found a this wallpaper website and observed closely at the taillights for the XLE and found that they were not LED

yet the hybrid is...

am I mistakened? I searched through the online brochure but couldn't find the answer

if anyone could help, it would be appreciative

oh and the site where the rest of the taillights pictures are
http://www.carphotosite.com/modelpag...brid/index.php
http://www.carphotosite.com/modelpag....XLE/index.php

thanks in advance

Only the hybrids have LED taillights.

Those hybrid taillamps have massive reverse lights! Does anyone know if it's alot brighter than the reverse lamps of the CE/LE/SE/XLE models?

so which do you all like better? the LED's or non LED's?

it seems as if the LED's are brighter, yes but the shape of the non-LED's will make a more sporty look?

so if we wanted the LED's, then I guess we'd have to go with the more expensive hybrid...

Pardon me for saying but, you and your wife are going to base a decision as important as getting a $25,000 car on something as minute and unimportant as what the "tail lights" look like??? Whoa! I actually have no words for once.

Sounds to me like you're trying to compare Apples to Oranges and use the LEDs as an equalizer?

IMO - I see it like this... The Hybrid has big dorking reverse lights, they're only on when the car goes in reverse which is about .0001 of the car's useful life... So why are they so over-enhanced? Next, what good are LED stop and marker lights when paired with everyday run of the mill incandecents for turn signal and reverse? Why not make them all LED?

Perhaps the better solution to this mod would be to wait a couple of months for the '08 model to come out, maybe they redesigned the LED look to fit CE/LE/XLE/SE models? If they don't then a guy could buy the outside Hybrid units and pair them up with existing inset units found on CE/LE/XLE/SE and then maybe retrofit the inset units with LEDs?

In all, LEDs are bling-bling in automotive applications, they are "sometimes" brighter and they will not go out like incandecents, but the real motivation would be to minimize current draw for multiple lights... For example, I retrofitted my Triton snowmobile trailer with LEDs considering all the clearance lights etc. were drawing upwards of 20A through the wiring harness... After adding the LEDs, I could light the trailer with a 12v 650MAh charger.

I'm guessing they're bigger because the engine is usually off when going in reverse and the car is silent. People walking behind will have an easier time noticing a car reversing, so it's a safety issue.

Could be, but there's quite a few dino-fueled cars that are pretty quiet from the rear? At any rate, I love the thin little reverse lights on the BMWs!

Again cars usually on spend a small percentage of time actually going in reverse, tone down the reverse lights and add a backup signal if they're so worried about lawsuits....

"Caution! Hybrid Car Approaching! Caution!, Hybrid Car Approaching! Caution!, Hybrid Car Approaching! Caution!, Hybrid Car Approaching! Caution!"

because that would get really annoying. plus most consumers will not pay much attention to the reverse lights when they are buying a car.

OK, my thoughts. No actual knowledge, but I won't let that stop me.

The hybrid reverse lights are LED's, and are so outrageously big (c'mon, who really wants rear lights where the REVERSE lights are the biggest element?!??) because it takes a whole bunch of LED lights to create enough output to actually "light up something" enough to see where you're going. This is why we don't have LED headlights (yet). Yeah, I know, they're working on it.

While, yes, I think LED lights are as cool as anyone does, I'm just NOT a fan of these "several rows of points of light" like these and an awful lot of other taillights. Especially here in the Hybrid, where you have that gosh-awful big reverse element, and then just three wimpy little rows of three lights -- bleah. And what I really really really really really REALLY don't like is having just the tails being LED's, and then the turn signals are regular incandescent bulbs. Like the Hybrid has.

So, chalk me up as NO fan of the Hybrid taillights.

I'm also similarly negative on "anything Altezza" -- barfo city!!!

Thus, I hate what Mazda is doing, I hate what Nissan is doing, and so on. And.... Well, gosh, I just really like the good, old, normal 2007 Camry taillights. No BS crap like Honda is doing so much nowadays with red turn signals. Another bleah!! Nope, the Camry has good old amber turn signals, which I think are just several hundred million times more noticeable than all-red taillights with red turn signals. And, the amber turn signals are "high and on the outside," right where they should be.

And then.... Absolutely nothing Altezza at all about the Camry taillights -- the actual tailights glow in the very shape they are -- no "big red area with some little section that lights up" -- it's that shape, and it all lights up. Ahhhhh, perfect.

Well done, Toyota! I like 'em!!

Actually THOOTS LED headlights are already a reality. Do some extra reading, you'll find that the new Lexus LS600hL is going to be the first car in the world with LED headlights. They look really nice.

Only an absolute idiot would base their car-buying decisions on the look of the brake lights.
