Detergents exist in all grades of fuel, there really is no need for additives unless of course your car sits for extended periods of time.
IME - Cars that are used daily tend to have less problems than cars that sit and are used weekly or monthly... I let a "spare vehicle" sit for weeks once and it wasn't pretty everytime I drove it, it seemed another problem crept up... For example the shocks were fine for 80 some odd thousand miles, then after 4 months of being a driveway queen, 2 suddenly were shot... The engine would run rough(er) and other little things started going bad like belts and hoses... Basically I think the lack of use let things dry up and water must have formed in the tank, etc.
Basically what I'm getting at... Provided there's fresh fuel delivery through the injectors daily, there's no chance the fuel left in the system when the cars is shut down will ever go bad... Ever see the milky white gell that forms in a carburator main-jet from blended fuels??? I have because I've let ATVs and Snowmobiles sit for months at a time with fuel in the carbs.
I do "occasionally" run a bottle of cleanser through the system... When I say occasionally, I'm thinking like once a year maybe every 10-15K miles. Usually I do this because I'm looking at other products in the parts store and figure, what the heck, can't hurt.
