5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi! I owned a Camry 2007 I4. Since I found that the low beam lights were not giving enough lights during nights here in CAnada, I decided to replace my Philips one with PIAA X white plus Xtreme cool blue 4000K kelvin. To my surprised it did not do what it normaly does when installed in another car, ie. seeing a strong blue/white light. What I found was it was a little better, but not as good as the one that my father in law has on his Acura (same lights!).
Is it because of retroprojector that PIAA does not come out as good? Is there a way to get a better view during nigthtime without having to use my high beams (I do not want to make the other drivers blind!!!).

in any case, projectors should help with the light output better since they distribute the light evenly... you can aim the low beam higher, or like Epsilon mentioned... HIDs... they do wonders
You would have to buy a complete plug and play kit if you don't want to retro an OEM kit with true HID projectors. As for the brand, it depends, how much are you looking to spend on an aftermarket HID kit?
Would 250$ be too low? As long as I can be certain that I will get good results and that I will not blind people! Also, is it legal?
i paid 255 for mine... and it may blind people because of the squirrel finders we have... i've been flashed twice so far, and i've had them for a few weeks now... and yes any aftermarket kit is illegal... but who cares? cops won't bug you much... they look factory
you guys can cover those squirrel finders up by just reaching into the projector and pushing the flap down.
i would suggest joing hidplanet and reading up on things there.
all and all you can get decent output from the stock halogen projectors but you will never get light like you see on BMW's or Acura's because they have HID projectors.

BTW netforcer please respond to my pm
what flap are you referring to?? can you take a picture of this flap??? thanks...
i also think the 07 camry lowbeams are not enough, in the city they are fine because most streets are illuminated by street lights etc. but driving to and from the suburbs up further north at night, the light output seems lacking.
