It is 87

Unlike some people on this Forum some of us have no problem just giving an answer to questions even if they have been asked before.

I've been told by an old wise women that it is better to keep your mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say.

If some members don't want to help I don't know why they bother to leave a message.

^You're only going to see a difference if you even get the car up to 5800RPM, because only at that RPM are you using all of your HP... if you're doing regular daily driving between 2000 and 3000 RPM, using higher octane gas won't do anything since you're not using all of the horses anyway.

It would have been easier to use the search engine or check your owners manual. I am going to defend njerald because as I said just yesterday, I as well as many others, are tired of seeing the same shit posted time after time on here. Part of the forum rules are to do a search before asking a question. One has to wonder just how ignorant and stupid America is getting when people ask questions that should be self-explanatory and by that I mean looking in your owners manual. Toyota doesnt make those things just for kicks of for the sake of cutting down trees, they do it for a reason. I dont understand why people come running to this site everytime they have the most stupid issue. READ YOUR DAMN OWNERS MANUAL geesh! I don't care if you're a newbie or a veteran. I sure dont remember people being this kind and understanding when I first joined this site. I asked a simple question and had all types of sarcastic and smartass comments. Where were you all then???

Here is link that may further educate you about gas.

http://www.onlinequity.com/esource_c...f_gasoline.htm

Hope this helps you better understand the reasoning.

And guess what, this didn't come from the owners manual. I just want to add one more thing then I will drop my crusade.

Not all people on this forum have yet to purchase a Toyota so they don't have a manual to refer to. Some are also new to forums, computers, etc and just haven't learned how to use them yet.

I think we all started out asking stupid questions sometime in our lives. It sad that some people need to jump all over someone just starting out.

You can defend him all you want. But some of us did do a search and sometimes our search keys will not yield the answer we want. Typing reponses in bold and !!! does absolutely nothing to improve the situation. You think yelling at your kids will make them all of a sudden respect you and see the errors of their ways? You may be able to fear kids into doing what you want, but adults will be more than gladly to get right back in your face.

You can do a couple of things to "help" the situation

1. Show him the keys you used in the search function to find the answer.

2. Tell him the page in the owners manual where you found it

3. If this does not help the problem in the long, send him a PM voicing your concerns (you think outing somebody in public is a great way of motivation?). Praise in public, criticize in private.

4. If nothing helps...just don't respond. There is nobody holding a gun to your head making your respond to a post that annoys you.

A rule of thumb is treat everyone on forums as if they are children and don't really understand how things work in the enviroment here. You assume they have the ability to grasp knowledge quickly as well if you give it to them. If you treat people as such, a lot of the "issues" that happen tend to go "poof" rather quickly. Another way to think about it is imagine if you were face to face with your boss. This one usually does it too.

Back on the subject. The "dealer" told me if I wanted maximum fuel efficiency I should use the highest octane I could. Automatically my "BS" detector was going off. However, he quickly qualified it for the reason of "detergents". Lower octane fuels at the average gas station will have a better chance of impurities that will reduce fuel efficiencies than higher octane gas does. This is true. The key is to look for gas stations which guarantee higher quality of 87 octane gas or be ready to cleaner every 6 months or a year.

Whitechoco is pretty spot on of when you need the better gas. In short...87 is fine if you don't buy crap gas.

The answer: Good gas.
Don't go to some unknown brand gas station cus their fuel will give you knocking.
From personal experience I recommend you stick with 76, Mobil, chevron, or shell.
87 from these stations is probably better then 91 from smith's or albertson's gas station.

Keep in mind the higher the octane the less chances of your engine knocking under stress.
IT won't necessarily give you more power but it will give you a "Cleaner" fuel which means less chances of knocking which means better performance when your engine is under stress(Higher RPM's). Pretty much your engine will perform the way Toyota says it will. (Unless they tested their engineHP with crappy gas)

The End.

BP/Amaco is the most highly recommended type of gas especially amongst Toyota owners. I only go to BP...Shell or Exxon if I can't find a BP.

Is that personal opinion or do you have some kind of proof. Not that I'm saying there is anything wrong with personal opinion (as you can see in my previous post) but I thought exxon was on the bad list along with Arco. And whats BP/Amaco?
