5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
The above link is to a post in teh Hybrid Camry Forum where another TN Member has installed the Eclipse BEC105 Reverse Camera to his factory navigation in the camry hybrid.
I was wondering if anyone with the I4/V6 Camry w/ Navigation has done this install yet?
If you have, please post a few pictures, so I can get an idea of where to install my camera.
1) Location of Camera- I'd like to see where it's mounted, I'd like to install mine where I will get the best view w/ the camera, as well as trying to hide the camera as much as possible, not to take away from the asthetics of the vehicle.
2) View on Navi Screen- I'd like to see what you actually see when your car is in reverse on the Navi Screen in relation to where you mounted your camera.
Thanks in advance for everyone's help, as I would like to preform the install this weekend, and any input would be beneficial to my install.
The camera would be installed right by the rear bumber lisence plate. It would be the same locations as the Lexus. As you put the car in reverse, the camera will turn on the screen and will give you a "bubble" view of your surroundings. You should never just rely on the camera as you back up because there are some blind spots.
I don't have this installed, but was thinking about it. My parents have it on their RX330. It should be the same. If you get it, show some pics!!!

Oh, i know where its installed & how it works,I'm more interested in the exact location where people install it. I've seen some installed to the left or right more. Since I have the XLE w/ Smart Key I can't install directly in the center as there is a button under there to open the trunk.
I should have it by Friday, so I'll do the install on Saturday & then post pix, but I was hoping to see the finished product to see how much of the camera you can actually see on the exterior while looking at the back of the car!
I saw this being sold locally at Canadian Tire (see link below). Has anyone tried it? It has WIRELESS transmission, so it should be easy to install for the DIY'er:
The Canadian Tire palce doesn't give any specs on the wireless, but I would assume it is a bluetooth connection. I would be concerned with co-channel intraference from my phone and the BT system in the car.

When I had the dash apart - there were a few wiring harnesses in the dash tied up (by the factory) that were not being used - I would venture to say that if I didn't have the NAV, these would connect to the JBL Standard System. If anyone with a JBL Bluetooth radio wants to take the radio & storage bin below the radio out, let me know if there are extra connectors down there for you. If there are, then this car is pre-wired for NAVI on every model, & you can just purchase the Toyota NAV from www.oemvalue.com for a lot less than the dealer & install it pretty simply!

It probably wouldn't make much difference, but would it not be better to install the camera on the curb side to give you a better view during parallel parks?

It's the ONLY place it can be installed the way I wanted it installed, as I has to file off the plastic underneath for the camera to fit under, as hide as much as possible of the mounting, the camera & the wiring. You are limited as to where you can put it because there are 5 threaded studs for mountign the plastic & I have Smart Key, so there is a trunk release button direcly in the center.
The camera has such a WIDE Angle lens that there really wasn't much difference in picture at all, as i mounted it there temporarily to see the differences in mounting locations
