anyone else seen the new Silverstar Ultra bulbs? saw them at Autozone for $50. $50?! r u kidding me? they claim to be brighter n last longer than the previous silverstars.
The only reason was that after one of my HID's ballast failed I bought the regular silverstars and one of the bulbs was bad.
SO...i took them back a week later, after receiving another paycheck, and paid the difference for the Ultra's.
Yes, they are brighter than the regular ones and the squirrel spotters are brighter and more intense causing me to LOWER the level of the headlights in order to keep from blinding people. That was no problem though, just a few turns on each headlight screw.
My advice...as of right now....dont waiste the money. I am curious as to see how long they last compared to the regular silverstars.
Anybody else pick these up? I just put 'em in my car this morning.. Obviously I can't really tell the difference during the day but in the parking structure the light was definitely whiter and just as bright, if not a little brighter than OEM. I hope these last a decent amount of time. The Silverstars I put in my mom's car are 3-4 years old [she doesn't drive much at night] and still work great.

I have silverstar ULTRA's in my 01 corolla. I think that they are amazingly bright at ight. On a cloudy day, If I turn on my high beams, I can see the signs get brighter due to the reflexions.
I love them. the ultra's have lasted me around 4 months now. the normal ones lasted about 3 months, so I hope to get a lot more out of them.

Damn.......3 months? And to sundarpn, you are referring to the 9005/9006 conversion. You put a 9005 bulb into the stock 9006 socket yielding brighter light but should not cause damage to the headlight or the stock wiring.

yeah 3 months... it sucked. But the ultra's have lasted longer and I have had no problems with them.
I just go into an accident and my front headlight was shattered to bits. but the light still works.
I wanted bright and high-end light for aesthetics and safety that would last a long time so I decided to do a hid retro. A little hard work but very much worth it in the end. I can see everything in front of me and most of the things to the side (because of the wide spread) with clear bright evenly spread light. But this isn't a retro thread so I will stop ranting.
My point is that I would rather stick with stock than get silverstars because of their short life span. Hopefully, your silverstar ultras keep on trucking. lol.

^Simple explanation: You take hid equipment from a car with factory HID headlights and put it into your car.
More Complicated explanation: You take OEM HID equipment and put it into your car. OEM HID equipment includes projectors, ballasts, and bulbs. The projectors are the parts that are actually "retrofitted" because you will have to open up your headlights and physically mount them inside of your headlights. The ballasts take power from your car and convert it into usable power for the bulbs. The whole process involves aiming of course, finding a good location for your ballasts (because all aren't waterproof), and making the whole thing look professional (or factory).
Answer your question?

^No, the only way you can just drop it in is get someone else to retro a pair of corolla headlights for ya. Then the only thing you'd have to do is keep the ballasts in a nice spot.
If you are interested in learning some more about HID and retroing, you should visit hidplanet.com and check out the "HIDPlanet University" section. It takes quite a bit of reading to understand what you are doing but quite a bit of guys on this forum now have a HID retrofit under their belts.
There are also quite a bit of threads on here about doing a retro if you search.

ys. that sounds way to hard to do. can I buy just what I need and just drop it in? 01 corolla LE
im not sure if its the same for an 01 corolla, but i visit the 9th gen rolla forums here and there and quite a few ppl have projector headlights from the Altis(a non USA version of the corolla) i dont remember if your 01 is a 9th gen or not... if it is, go check out *************.com its a great place.
I just installed a Silverstar Ultra on the passenger-side lowbeam and took some pictures for comparison (not a Camry). It looks whiter and slightly brighter. I am satisfied. They seem to work as advertised, nothing more, nothing less. I'll have to wait and see how long they'll last:
Left side is stock 9007 bulb, right side is Silverstar "Ultra" 9007. Camera placed in front of the licence plate.
