5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
It possibly could be for shipping but the dealer told me that the hook is in the back lid where the spare tire is and it's most commonly used for pulling your vehicle out of snow or mud. The hook screws into the frame or whatever is behind the square.
This makes more sense to me.
well, as the blind lead the blind in search for the Holy Anchor point, getting back to the original topic of the thread, what exactly is the point of putting on effects kit on an LE? Marketing wise it makes no sense, the SE, LE and XLE all hit different targets, now the 'special edition' blurs the differentiation between the LE and SE. Rather silly in my eyes.

Wish list of future mods: curb feelers, fuzzy dice, 'spinner' hubcaps, shag carpet dashcover, furry steering wheel cover, bumper deer whistles.

SE still looks a lot different and more sporty. There is no blurred line. Go back and look at the pictures.

Always got something else in mind...
FWIW - This little knock out in the bumper of Japanese vehicles has grabbed my attention, I notice them on Lexus as well as Honda/Acura and other Japanese built cars. Reading this thread reminded me I wanted to find out more... How does it work? Why not something else besides cutting a hole in the bumper?
I came up with very little, but managed to gather the following.
1. The hole in the bumper rather than another attachment point is to make it easier for the "lashing crew" to fasten/unfasten the vehicles without damaging them. An eye-bolt may be used which is removed during PDI?
2. How does it work and what does it look like? I couldn't find anything specific to Toyota, but this volvo/range rover/jaguar loading manual will give some indication... Look on page 6.
The 'knock out' piece is removed and there is a threaded hole that is attached to the frame. An eye bolt is screwed into it for securing the vehicle with tie down straps on the ship for tranpsort from Japan.
Here are the rear hooks, once again you won't find these on US built vehicles.

The SE version is actually cheaper than that package while offering much more equipment (although wheels are 1” smaller on the SE). This “Special Edition” is a blatant rip off.
