5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
it's amazing how much quieter it is inside the Gen5 cabin than in the Gen4. but i wanna make it even more quiet, like a Benz or Bimmer. has anyone tried putting Dynamat on their doors n trunk? i'm not looking for sound quality for my stereo, just want it to be very quiet inside.
If you are planning to make your car even more quiet, make sure you have quiet tires. Tires can make a big difference when it comes to quietness.
I agree. Good 'quality' tires can lead to a world of difference. My tires have close to 120K miles on em' the tread is superb, but the noice is getting to me now. But at the end of the day, i know i have a camry..not a benz!
Have you actually bought from this site and used their product? I've been looking into reducing some of the road noise from my floor and door as well. This looks promising (and cheaper).
in my '06 Cam, the trunk floor has strips of, what looks like dampening material. that's a nice feature that the Gen4 didn't have. i'm looking to dampen the front doors for more quietness. that'll all probably be a moot point after i upgrade to 17" wheels. the shorter sidewall could lead to more road noise, right?

For me it did. I had 15" stock alloys and tires (215/65?), then changed them to 17" solara wheels with Falken ziex tires and there is more road noise. The ziex tires were cheap, so I'll live with the noise for now, but come next tire replacement I'll definitely keep the noise factor in mind.
Those Ziex tires are also notorious for sidewall failure as they have no reinforcement, I've owned two sets to date, and at least one out of each set has ended up with a "blister" on the sidewall, not impressed and won't be buying those again, instead I put on Fuzion ZRI directional tires and have been very pleased.

Yes, definitely. 17" wheels will definitely have more road noise than smaller wheels, as smaller wheels have greater sidewall height, which leads to greater sound dampening. With a larger wheel you have greater metal to rubber ratio. Rubber of course will absorb/dampen noise/vibration better than metal.
