Mine has a hiss under load, I think more in the mornings. Now a constant hiss, I will look for vacuum leaks. Mine is an 05 if it matters.

my 2003 4cyl also hisses upon acceleration...
every 2az ive every driven has that noise...i dont think anything of it
its like the ticking of the lifters and other assorted valvetrain noises and timing chain noises the 2az makes...its just a loud engine

my engine makes the same noise. its perfectly normal. maybe somebody snuck under your hood over night and installed a turbokit

Is your idle smooth? Maybe you have a vacuum leak.

Yes, the idle is smooth. I'm assuming it's a cracked hose, or a lose clamp somewhere. I don't think anything is seriously the matter. It's just an annoying noise. I'll have more time to look at it this weekend.

Sorry to revive a thread, but my dad told me he recently got this problem. He has a 2003

The idle is below normal, and its starting to feel shaky. His mechanic told him one of his cylinders are leaking air. There is no engine light on. It sounds like its coming from the passenger side, around the headers area. He has about 215k miles on his motor.

i'd clean the throttle body and give it a good seafoam.
then I'd check the head gasket.

im guessing its those two different problems. but i need a better description from you to see what's going on.
