Simple Rims Question

Hi,

I never had the need to replace my rim before so this is a simple question...

On 2007 Camry XLE V6 it comes standard with 16" rims (P215/60R16). With that, let say if I am interested in an 18" rim, what tire size would I go for? How do I determine what tire size to use?

P215/60R16? If I get a larger tires, I can only increase P215 and not 60R right?

When buying a rim, I see 18x8, 18x7.5 etc. Will that affect the tire size too?

I am looking at www.tirerack.com and it said I need to purchase the TPMS Sensor (which cost an arm and a leg for) because the XLE comes with tire pressuring detection system...

The tire size should depend on the width of the wheels and how much comfort you want. Currently your tires are 215/60/18/.

215 - width of the tires
60 - aspect ratio
18 - size of the tires

When choosing tires, you should keep in mind to stay somewhat close to your oem tire diameter.

Use a tire calculator at 1010tires.com ...just plug in your current tire, and up to 3 different other sizes, and it'll tell you the differences. You will want to stay as close to your stock diameter, like Epsilon said.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

235/45 18 or 245/ 45 18 are the closest to original Overall wheel diameter size...

On the wheels you are buying, what's the wheel width?

Also your current wheels have the TPMS sensors, you do not need to purchse additional sensors unless you intend on using the stock wheels for say winter use, otherwise you can simply move the TPMS sensors to the new wheels, it's part of the valve assambly.

If you want comfort and less noise, stick with the tires you currently have. Increasing the size of the wheels and reducing the sidewall generally makes the ride stiffer.

Lower profile tires are generally, not always, performance tires which emphasize performance. Longetivity and noise take a back seat.

For detailed information: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

215/60/18

If you increase the 60 profile, less noise and more comfort will occur.
But by increasing the 60 profile, you have to decrease the 18" size to 17" to keep original overall diameter.
By decreasing wheel size to 17", you lose a bit of handling due to the taller sidewall, which is the increased 60 profile.
If you increase 215, it'll increase handling, due to more grip, but decrease fuel economy.
