Do the oil change at the dealer? $35 bucks. (coupon)
OR
Get the filter from dealer and Valvoline durablend 5-w30 and do it myself? (will be about 10 bucks cheaper but 1 hour of my time and waiting for a sunny day and this is my first oil change in a camry...)
Your dealer is using Valvoline or Quaker State. It just depends upon how dirty you mind getting, how much your time is worth, and what you are going to do with the waste oil.Oh, and don't forget about saving the documentation that you actually changed the oil, just in case you have an engine failure. I used to change my oil all the time, but it isn't as much fun as it was 30 years ago.

On my old Honda Accord and all of the Honda Accord I had through the years, I've been doing full Mobile 1 Sync. Pricey, but heck all of my Accords ran above and beyond 250k miles on original engine. No rebuild, no engine problem. Other than usually maintenance such as timing belt, hoses, etc changes....
My 1998 Accord had as much as 320k miles before I had to get rid of it due to car wreck. My buddy did the same with his 1995 Prelude and that went above 380k before he got rid of his...
I though toyota dealers use like a toyota branded oil. Not dino quaker stake!!
If I change my own oil what recepits should I keep to prove it. All I can show are the bill from the dealer for the oil filter and the volvoline oil bill from walmart.

Toyota does not make their own oil. They make trucks and cars, not oil. Call your dealer service guy and ask what brand of oil they use. You can pay extra for whatever brand you want, but they normally use bulk oil of some sort.
You would need to keep the receipt for the oil and filter, note the date and odometer reading, but you will need to KEEP it and not lose it. Sometimes easier said than done.

Buy a case of oil filters on Ebay for $40 delivered, go to Walmart and buy a 5 quart jug of Motorcraft oil for $10 (it's a dino/synthetic mix) and change it yourself. While you're done under the car look around for things that might be leaking and/or damaged. Check your other fluids and look around the top half of the motor for things that might be leaking while you're at it. That is the part that I like about changing my own oil.
What the hell do you need receipts for on the oil changes? I'm guessing you're out of warranty anyway.
The Toyota dealers in my area use Castrol. I do the Castrol Full Synthetic oil

Considering a blend is about 15% synthetic, why bother?
IMO blends are too expensive and a ripoff.
You can do your blend and do a 50-50 synthetic-dino mix.
Just stay with the same weight and brand of oil.
I go with a full synthetic in my vehicles.
Just get the oil and filter changed every 3,000 mi. and you won't have to worry about which brand of oil you use. Just use the weight oil recommended by your manufacturer. I've done this for years and drove my cars well over 150,000 mi. without an engine malfunction. Don't forget auto. trans service. I have my trans. fluid and filter changed every 35,000 mi. or at the manufacturers recommended interval.

Is this a good idea? Sound great. I did not know that blends are just 15% synthetic!
And the gen 5 takes 4 banger just 4 quarts right so the 50/50 deal is not that expensive.
I went with Penzoil platinum full synthetic oil and purolator pure one filter...
there was a buy one get one free deal on the oil. So in all oil and filter came to 18 bucks at advance auto.
Exact same set up I have. Next time I might use a Toyota OEM filter instead since my local dealer sells them at 3.75/ea.
Although I bought my Penzoil Plat. at Advanced Auto, I believe Wal-mart sells gallon jugs for ~18 bucks. Pretty cheap for a name brand synthentic oil if you ask me.
As for the 50-50 making your own blend, the local garage my parents have been taking their vehicles to does this with Castrol dino and synthetic.
Oil is always a weird subject; everyone has their oil that they swear by and a brand they hate that supposedly destroys engines, pillages third world countries and kicks puppies
