Parking brake

How many clicks does it take to set the parking brake on your 07 Camry?

My 00 Camry needed about 5 and the car wouldn't budge. My 07 takes 10-11 clicks and quite a bit more force when setting the brake to hold the car on the same incline where I parked my 00. My 00 had disc/drum brake and my understanding is that 07s have a disc/disc setup. Is this what accounts for the difference?

No one knows?

I was stopped on a gentle hill today and I put my car in neutral and pulled the parking brake all the way up. When I let go of the brake my car started rolling backwards down the hill.

Over a distance of about 150 yards, the hill probably went up about 10-15 ft, so it's not that steep.

Is this typical of a 2007 Camry with 4 wheel disc brake or does this need adjustment?

I have a foot pedal parking brake. It takes a couple of clicks but I have never counted. I think it doesn't matter so long as you can stop the car from rolling down a hill (even if you have to put the brake to it's max.).

I saw the parking brake under my cupholders when I was installing my interior leds. It looks like it's adjustable to some degree.

Hope that helps.

Parking breaks do wear out. Usually when I have break service, the parking break servive is included. How many miles do you have?

All 07 Camry's have the foot pedal parking breaks. The Manual Transmission has the Hand Lever.

Where did you get that chart? The 07 Camry click adjustment is as follows.

Automatic with foot pedel = 7 - 10 notches

Manual with hand brake = 7 - 9 notches

Next... You fellas do understand that while you have rear disc brakes.... The parking brake works like a drum brake within the hub of the disc?

This is why someone was able to "back out" when the brake was lightly depressed but the car wouldn't move forward.

Aren't you just repeating the specs for th parking brake settings that I just posted?

Those are the service specifications provided by Toyota.

Anyhow, the dealer adjusted my brake and all is well. My car will hold with 5-8 clicks depending on the grade.
