5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2002 Camry SE, 4 Cylinder, Manual Transmission:
I have had this car for 3 days. I love how it drives and plan on performing numerous modifications, but I would like to get the most bang for the buck with a horsepower modification first. As I build a mod-fund, I will start doing the more practical horsepower modifications that requre some cash, but for now I just want the most pop for the dollar.
Any suggestions?? Any positive input would be appreciated. Regards - Kevin

Turbo! maybe if u got the $$ but there isnt much really available for the cam... thers an air intake but many say it really doesnt do much except add noise
The best HP to money spent would be a nitrous setup, But do what you want...

how long do you want your motor to last? the 4 cylinder is not a performance motor without a lot of help. i agree with gdanaher, sell it a get a v6 car.
Yeah, it sucks to some degree having the 4 banger but look at the bright side - you can save gas. Because I'm graduating in May, getting married, plus looking into buying a house in a couple of years, it appears that I am stuck with my I-4 for a while. In fact, I just invested in an extended warranty for it.
Hopefully in about 2 to 3 years, I can get a V6 (not necessarily a Camry).

You've got a lot to plan for in the years ahead. What you're doing is the best way to get the most out of your investment - drive that I4 until the day it wears out. Being its a Toyota, it might be a while before the car croaks on you. I know this first hand - LOL my '93 Camry has 230,000 miles on it, still has the original engine, transmission, alternator, distributor, etc. and still runs just fine
The Camry I4 is one of the most economical way to get around, so driving it normally is saving tons of money compared to modding it for performance. If performance is needed, the V6 is the way to go.
My apologies, this post was a bit OT, but just my $0.02
