5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
After the past couple of cars, going from an all-black interior to my current bisque, I think it'll be "black for me," from here on out. I just like the "stealthy" nature of the black interior, especially if you've got any tint at all (even from the manufacturer) in the windows. With the light-colored interior, it's almost like everything in your car is "on display" for all to see, and maybe it indeed invites folks to check out my car rather than the one sitting next to it. Plus, black has a whole "understated" look going with it, unless some of the other interior bits are glaring away against it.
Also, I think this will be the end of "dark colors" for me. My Blue Ribbon XLE shows swirl marks unlike any car I've ever owned. Not that I'm unhappy with the color itself -- I'm happy with the deep, deep, deep color, and I've received many compliments about it. It's just the seemingly totally unavoidable swirls. (Oh, sure, you can spend a weekend working to get rid of the swirl marks, but then the very next time you wash the car, they're right back again!) If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone for Sky Blue, that's for sure!
And, of course, I wanted the XLE, and certainly not an SE, so I didn't even have an option to get a dark interior. So, it's all about "maybe next time," but I'm hoping to drive this thing for a couple of decades or so before it gives up the ghost -- hopefully it'll be a long time before "next time!"

Do you use a Auto-Wash with brushes? Or do you use a touchless?
I would not use an Brush style wash with my Black LE.
I too would rather have the Charcoal in the XLE...why they don't allow it is beyond me. Probably to keep the cars "different looking" I suppose. Still it would have bene sweet. Mine is the Ash Grey interior and it is fine too. (the beige is horrible to me. I am tired of that color and it shows dirt more) Anything is better then the Blue on Blue of my Park Avenue. Except the leather in my Buick is a noch above the Camry's quality of leather. That I can tell. Still, the Camry's leather is not a cheapie one either...

Hi - I'm new to this post and new to the Toyota brand. At the end of November I ordered an '07 Camry SE, Magnetic Gray with Charcoal interior. The dealer said the car should arrive in approx. 2 months. Well on Wednesday the car came in and to make a long story short, it had the wrong color interior (Ash). The dealer said the order was correct, but the factory installed the wrong color. They could not locate another car to match my request and says it needs to order another one....2 more months. Not sure what to do - any suggestions?
First you need to be informed. Search the toyota inventory online. When I bought mine I knew as much as the dealer about where and when my car would arrive. I, like you, waited for 4 weeks and the car was wrong. It didn't have the smart key. They offered a remote start add to make up for it but I wanted what I ordered. While I was waiting for my sales dude I went to there customer research computer and searched the toyota inventory. I fould one that was actually assigned to come to their dealership in about a week.
IT IS ALWAYS WORTH THE WAIT TO GET WHAT YOU WANT!!!! DON'T SETTLE.
nothing worse than starting a long term financial commitment wondering if you should have been a little patient...of course its very hard to want and half to wait
I agree get them to give you what you actually want. You don't want to in a years time be driving around thinking "Man I wish I had the other colour" for the sake of a little wait.
Just be patient, make sure they give you the right one this time, and see if you can get something free to make up for the hassle they gave you for stuffing up.
If your paying that amount of cash, you want what you ordered.
I received my call last week from Toyota USA - they basically put it back to the customer service person at the dealer. The ash interior was substituted on the line and they did not inform the dealer it was changed. The dealer is trying to locate another one for me but not I don't think it's a priority - focussed on month-end.
I will not settle for something I don't want. I haul soccer kids around and the ash would look like charcoal in no time.
Personally, I think the contrast between the charcoal and silver inserts is superb. I had ash and thought it looked boring and dull compared to the sportier charcoal. So good choice and hold out for it, it's worth the wait.

I agree with hybridamp the charcoal is the BOMB. I was so disappointed the charcoal was not offer with the white paint.

Actually, the swirls showed up back when I was doing nothing but hand-washing the car. And yes, I'd do a real thorough multiple-step polish and wax job, and that'd look pretty good, but the next time I washed it -- again by hand -- it was swirl city again. At this point, I have completely given up -- it'll be a swirl-monster, no matter what I do!
i'm not a car washing expert obviously, but the salesman told me to go thru a car wash and not wash it by hands if i dont any swirl marks. is this bs?
Don't let that salesman fool you. Think about it...if you go through a brush car wash they can pick up grit from the car ahead of you then start slapping your car with it. Hand wash with TWO buckets..one for rinse and one for wash. It cuts down on the grit...
That is why I didn't really "think" thoots used a car wash. I understand the dark colors are swirl beasts. My Black LE was starting to get them too. I am sure I will with the RED as well..*sigh*

For the swirl marks, try NanoWax from Eagle One, used it on my Black 2001 Sentra and it did a better job than the multi-step products out there. Excellent product!
