5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hi - I'm new to this post and new to the Toyota brand. At the end of November I ordered an '07 Camry SE, Magnetic Gray with Charcoal interior. The dealer said the car should arrive in approx. 2 months. Well on Wednesday the car came in and to make a long story short, it had the wrong color interior (Ash). The dealer said the order was correct, but the factory installed the wrong color. They could not locate another car to match my request and says it needs to order another one....2 more months. Not sure what to do - any suggestions?

Don't fall for that trick. Sounds like your car was never ordered and that was a inbound car.
It only takes about 10 days to 2 weeks from the time the car rolls off the line till the time it sees the dealer's lot. Get the manufacture date from the vin and do the math. You're going to pay somewhere around 26k bucks for a machine you will live in for several years. It had better be the right color or you will be miserable. Just tell the kind salesman to sell it to someone elese and order one for you that is correct. It isn't going to take 2 months, really.
Anyway, the cars get on the fly corrections and improvements as the months go by, so a later production car is to your advantage.

I have a call into customer service - they issued me a number and said someone would be calling me at the beginning of next week. What numbers on the Vin will give me the build date?
Same thing happened to me. I ordered charcoal (non leather) and got ash. Guy told me there were some problems with the color codes being the same or something. Re-ordered and everything worked out fine.

Nothing from the VIN will give you a specific build date. As far as I know, you'll have to obtain that from the dealer or Toyota USA using the VIN.

Thew door jam label will tell which month. The Vin number cvan be referenced by either the dealer or Toyota customer service to the exact date. Call them, give them the vin, and give them a minute to look it up.

You will not need to worry about the vin. Corporate will be contacting someone at the dealership and the dealership will contact you. You did the right thing here by contacting corporate. It is amazing how a call to Toyota corporate can change the attitude of a dealership.
Also, it shouldn't take 2 months to get you the right car. I ordered my 07 XLE in late August when they were in higher demand than they are now and it came in 4 weeks to the day I ordered it.

True. My car was an 8/06 build and I bought it 9/17/06.
personally, i'd keep it. the dark cloth with metallic trim around the console is too contrasting - eyesore! the stone/ash cloth blends those trims in better, plus with gray, you can't tell if the seats are dirty or not - with dark cloth, you can always see every single speck of clothing threads left behind.
