I suggest that if you use Mobil1 extended that you change the filter every 5k but drain and change the oil at 15k. There is no substitute for cleanliness!

I drive a1996 dodge caravan at work to deliver school supplies. It has over 300000mi. on it. Oil is changed at 5000mi. Think how much the oil changes would have cost if we had used synthetic, and 3000mi. I'm told when i wear it out i will get the bosse's 2005 chrysler town and country which has only 14000mi on it . We use valvoline 10 W30.

After using synthetic for years over a couple of cars, I'm convinced we change our oil too often at least with synthetics. I used to change every 10k miles, but now it's annually (right before winter) which for me is 15 to 20 k miles...

My last Camry (94) was the every 10k car and the cams looked 'chrome-plated' and had zero wear at 293,000 miles with Mobil 1. The factory cylinder-hone was still visible too...

I love this stuff...

mobil1 + long life oil filter (one of those fleece ones if you can) and your oil will last a VERY long time without filter changes.

I use the wix ones in my avalon

I know for or five people who have BLOWN their engines on mobil 1 extended... including myself (blew my Toyota Celica Engine). I use to believe the crap of it lasting a VERY LONG TIME.

I am a big believer in using synthetic oil and I am also a big believer is changing your oil every 5K!!!

Personally I am not brand loyal about the sythetic oil I use but I do use 0w20.

I use either K&N or Mobil 1 (my two favorites) and Toyota (third favorite) oil filters.

My dealership has a deal (with coupon) for $37.99 for 0w20 toyota oem synthetic oil change plus they do a 20 point inspection, Can't beat that price. The last time I got my oil changed there 'Toyota of Woburn, MA' they noticed I was leaking Tranny oil and I got it fixed their under the gaurantee (gaskets were replaced ($10.00 in parts and 3 hours of labor), I have a 5sp manual 2008 SE)

I have close to 39k and my rear have about 5-15% left and my fronts have about 15-25% left. I can notice that I need a wheel alignment due to the uneven wear on the rear wheels. I am scrapping them in a month from now, I drive close to 800 miles a week an I plan on getting some bridgestone Blizaks WS70. keeping one eye out on 18" wheels which I will use after the winter.

There are sooo many car stories hitting 250,000+ miles on regular (dino) oil. If you change it every 3K then there should be no issues. My father-in-law has a 1985 Chevy truck. It has over 400,000 miles and has never had any issues with the engine. He changes it with the cheapest oil he can get and he changes it every 3K miles. This is a Chevy, not a Japanese car. I also put Mobil1 in my Camry, but will no longer waste the money. If I was planning on keeping the car 10 years or going to drive it 200K miles I would maybe, maybe use full-synthetic oil. But like most people, I keep a car 4-6 years and sell it. No need at all to waste that money. Just change the oil every 3K (which is still early) and there should be no problems.
