5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have been focussing in on the two body styles, this is nothing new, old news, but the more I look and compare, the more I like the Gen 5 body style. I think it has to do with the stock tires for the Gen 6. Gen 6 body is banging, but the legs are too skinny off the dearships... also, Gen 5 looks longer in some respects... I can be bias on this one for obvious reasons, but when I see a nice modded out Gen 6 with some heavy shoes, and tint, and in black do I then know that of course the Gen 5 is no match... lol.

I somewhat agree with you. I do think the Gen5.5 looks a little better especially more agressive in the front with its more angular fog lights, the flared out lower bumper area, and more chrome on its grille (LE & XLE).
But then... looking on the side, the wheels seems to be so small for the Gen5's relatively tall body. It looks almost like its really bloated when viewing at certain angles.
From comparison, parking my '05 Camry next to my '07 ES350, I can really see the difference. The Camry is a pretty tall vehicle - has more ground clearnace, and looks like it is overweight.
That's just my observation; adding my $0.02 to this thread.
BTW - my all time favorite body style was the Gen3; both interior and exterior design... it still looks good today.

I tend to like the gen 5.5 more but as others have mentioned, the most popular I4 LEs have 15" tires which are way too small for a car of its size. Seeing an XLE with 16" rims or better yet, an SE V6 with 17" rims is HOT! Gen 5.5 + bigger rims is a very good looking car. The gen 6 is nice but I expect I will like the gen 6.5 a whole lot more.
I agree with your statement on the gen 3 by the way. The car still looks fairly modern and good looking even today. It was definitely a good looking car back then and still is. My friend's '89 Legend coupe is still a looker too. Definitely had good designers backing those cars.

here is a little comparison of the 2005 and the 2007 Camry SE's:

tail lights:
i tried to make it as unbias as possible using both red SE's from the 2005/2006 year and the 2007. im biased since thats my 05 SE frontal view up there so you know which one i prefer, but both of them have their positives and negatives...
I've got the Gen 5.5 SE with the factory body kit, TRD lowering springs, after market 17" rims (replaced the stock 17") and 225/50x17 profile tires (stock was 215/55x17) which drops the car another 1/4". I think the 5.5 has a more sportier look to it that the 6. The 6 definitely has an full size sedan look while the 5.5 still has a sport sedan look to it with the right mods.

did you sell off your stock 17"s?? i love the look of them as opposed to my 16" alloys
The 6 definitely has an full size sedan look while the 5.5 still has a sport sedan look to it with the right mods.
Thats the kicker. And I agree with it.
And my opinion is unbiased, since the car sitting in my garage downstairs is a 2007 V6 LE. The car is just not very aggressive looking. Its definitely nice, but like the others have said... with the right mods, the Gen 5/5.5 definitely looks better IMO then that Gen 6. Stock, however... I think the Gen 6 takes it.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.
gen 5 looks like its starving while gen6 looks like it just got out from the gym. don't get me wrong, i like certain aspects of the gen 5.5 but overall i like the current gen better. from the sleeker headlights and taillights, sculted hood, wider fenders, lower roofline, shorter rear overhang. i'm not going to get into the interior, i don't feel like embarrassing the gen5 more
i own an 05 SE... i prefer the hood of the gen 5.5 better than the dolphin look of the gen 6, MINUS the headlights with the projector love... the stock gen 6 SE with the ground effects kit looks a bit sportier than the 5.5 SE ground effects kit only because then gen 6 has rounder edges. for the rear, it really depends on personal preference. i like the rounded styling of the gen 6 but i like the gen 5.5 rear with spoiler even more. thats what this all comes down to basically, personal preference..
