5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This is the same pic I used for the gps thread, but you can see the radar detector as well. For the most part, it's hidden by the GPS so people cant see it from behind me.
I like it, but I live in MD and VA and DC have issues with radar detectors. So I would have place somewhere else, any ideas?
I've had my V1 located high in my cars with the remote display for years in NOVA. I was pulled over once for inspection sticker and the officer never noticed it.

I ended up buying a small fuse accessory that allows both fuses to run from the same fuse slot. I chose the 10amp radio 2 fuse under the console. I will most likely change this location. Once the fuse accessory is on you can't secure the fuse cover any longer and while snug it's not in there with much force. It works and it's easy. I didn't want to tear apart the center console to get to the cig lighter. The V1 fits extremely high and isn't noticeable at all from directly behind the car, especially with my tint. I put the remote display on the left hand side of the gauge cluster. It only covers up the maint req'd stuff but not any guages. I may pull out the clock assembly later and place the remote display in there. It fits perfectly and is fully hidden from the sides. You don't have to take your eyes off the road to look at the display. Damn arrows are so addictive. Right after installing it and taking a short ride, I had a signal from the rear. It was a Sheriff coming up from behind. Unfortunately, VA just purchased a batch of Spectre III's. Although the V1 is only detectable from 200ft or less with the Spectre III, I may have to fork out $449 for the Bel STi if Valentine doesn't counter with their own completely stealth unit.
what version is your V1? the new ones now are detectable at over 1000 ft.
Source of reference? According to some recent testing with the 3.851, 3.858 and 3.861 they are still only detected by the Spectre III around 160ft on average. The worst test showed around 200ft. I have 3.824 software and will be sending it in to Valentine next monday so they can load 3.826 to fix my automuting problem. I love the programmability of the V1.
Mine was yellow - switched power, white/black - ground.
I'm probably going to do this soon exactly the same way you did. Any problems yet drawing power from this line? i.e. blow the factory fuse yet? Did you leave a fuse in the line to the radar detector?
