Ok, i havent searched anything about the dvd players on this site, but i have read alot of threads about the DVD players that others already have. This is my whip http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2383873
I want a DVD/NAV/CD or either just a DVD/CD player double din.
I also want to be able to run my future headrest TVS off of this monitor, but also be able to play CDs at the same time, So when im riding around trying to show off, i can have my tvs playing, while listening to muisic. And so when im at a indoor show, I can just have all the TVS playing the same thing. The only double din I have seen do that, Is an Eclipse. But i figured if anyone knew of another one they would tell me. Also if you all do know of one could you give me the price too.
I have a Magellan Road Mate 700 thats seems to be a POS portable NAV system, took it on a 10 hour trip, didnt work the whole time, it was supposly looking for Satilights.
If anyone could help me out with some ideas, i would apperciate it.(thanks)
Pioneer has some good double din's. The AIVC-Z2 (Same as Z1, just with updated maps) This unit does CD/Dvd/Navi w/ 20 gig Hard drive dedicated to the Navigation. This eliminates hassling between navi cd/ and music or dvd. Average price US$2,000.00- US$2,250.00 Installed Excelent unit. Would buy it if i have the extra $$.
Next runner up Pioneer AVIC-D3 CD/DVD/Nav US$1,000.00-US$1,000.00 And finally the AVH-6800DVD just does Dvd's and audio Cds US$1,200.00-US$1,400.00
There are other make of double din radios, but it all depends on your budget, and what you would like this unit to do.
Im going to look into them all, I dont really have a price range, I usually dont put price, because if I want something, im going to get it, im not going to take the cheap way out, its a show car, suppose to have alot of money in it. I was looking at eclipse, and they are the only unit, that has 2 slots, one for like Nav System, and one for like DVD/CDs so that way you could have ur NAV up and still be running ur TVS in the head rest.
What is everyone feeling toward the Eclipse AVN6600, It seems to have more features then the Pioneer. I mean im generally an Alpine man, but to me it doesnt seem like their double din fits what im looking for. I have never been into Pioneer to much, but I think im about to pick from Eclipse and Pioneer, so if everyone could tell me what they think would fit me better.

i'll let you know about the eclipse avn6600... supposed to get it today! i'll probably install it within a couple of days. i really like the fact that for eclipse units, you don't have to splice anything... and the steering wheel controls work without extra modules or modifications.

Hey i would really like to know about AVN6600 because that seems to be the one I like, because of the Dual Zone, so i can play CDS up front, and then play my TVS in the back.

Thank you, the only thing i see that much of a difference is the Hard Drive, and the price. Im guessing on a hard drive you can store movies, and music, and for the Nav system, but I dont think i need all that, ill just bring a DVD, and pop it in.

Bostonballer212, good choice. Don't buy the one that has "Hard Drive". Hard drive doesn't last as long as other devices because of the way it design. It has to spin (like a wheel) to work so over a period of time it will go out of alignment. That's why on your computer, hard drive is usually the first problem device inside your pc. Good luck and show us pictures once you have it installed.

In either application, DVD or HD, there is going to be something spinning. I mean, how does a DVD player read the DVD disk? Spins right?
The avic z2 has 30g of space, 10g of which is devoted to all your media (i.e. music, pics, yadda yadda). So, in essence, what you have is 10g's of space to store all the music you want. Not only that, but the z2 can rip the music from the cd you put into it and store it on the HD. Thats was one of the biggest selling points for me.

You are right about both applications will be spinning either HD or DVD. But think about it, DVD is your removeable disk and HD is your permanent disk. That is why over use of time your HD will be out of alignment. This is why we rarely got problems with DVD drive in our pc but more problems with HD.
I agreed with you on the convenient of having the HD. I just hope that they use a newer technology with the HD that will make it last longer.

I see where you're going with this. But again, im not refering to the DVD itself, Im refering to the drive. The part inside the drive that spins the dvd sees just as many RPMS as a hard drive. Granted, the HD is normally used more than the DVD drive and yes the HD (due to how much more it is used when compared to a DVD drive) will see more useage. But, I dont think the difference in useage is enough to use that as an argument concerning wear and tear. Especially considering where we're at, technology wise, when it comes to HDs.
I can say this though, ive replaced more CDR/W drives and DVD drives than I have HDs.
The way I see though, is even if he chose the DVD driven GPS system. That DVD drive will be spinning just as much as an HD would be when it needs to access the info on the disk. I think, when comparing wear and tear of moving parts, they are both on the same level of risk. Just my opinion though.

You have a good point. Let's hope the newer technology keeps the HD last longer.
