5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I went out and bought a new Camry, and got the i4 so I'd get better gas mileage, since I've got a 200 mile a day commute. Yeah, I know the V6 is "supposed" to get nearly identical mileage, but how likely is that?
So then, a month and a half after I buy the i4, I get transferred for work, and now I'm working 2 blocks away from home. Gas mileage doesn't mean a thing when you're driving that short a distance, and actually, I've not even been driving it to work, it's not a long enough trip to drive on a daily basis.
That's the story of my life.

'94 Camry LE. IDK, that minty green color that looks silver in a pic, until you see the car, and it's actually green.

Actually I think it's pretty likely. You've got an engine that doesn't have to work as hard to pull around the car. That said, everyone's mileage varies so you never really know what you're gonna get. But just because it's a V6 doesn't mean it can't get great mileage. I can get 23 in the city in my V6 and that's digging into the throttle pretty heavily on a regular basis. If I really flog it, it will go down to 20-21. In theory, if I drove like most Camry owners I might be able to pull a 24-25 in the city. But I can't seem to get past 1/4 tank without redlining it at least once
We had a auto tC that was rated 23/30. It consistently got 26-27mpg commuting (freeway with traffic but not horrible traffic). Now we have an auto xB that gets 27-28 on the exact same commute. I expected the xB to be 4-5mpg more efficient and it's not. I am not the least bit happy about it, but what can you do???
Yeah in my I4 Camry it angers me everytime I look down at the fuel gauge and I ALWAYS have 200 miles at a half tank mark, but its wrong because my gas light comes on at 315-330 miles and that requires usually 15 gallons of gas.
I really need to find a way to let out my frustration because I can't keep doing this. I think realizing that $38 can only buy me 330 miles just irks me.

Wow... you drink more gas than my V6... city driving?
Yes, its 99% city driving. Stop and go all day. Should I calm down and tell myself its because the roads I travel are 99% city??
i feel ya man.. i have an 05 SE I4 and i do city driving 99% of the time too(its horrible here in nyc if you didnt know).. i usually get no more than 250-300 out of one fill up(between 12-15 gallons). comes out to be less than 20mpg!! ive been trying to keep off of the pedal as much as possible but i can only grandpa the throttle so much. wish i could get better mileage.. i wish my school was located out in the burbs where i can drive all hwy.. *sigh*
Hahahah, I deserve that. I get so caught up in the emotion that the obvious isn't so obvious! Besides the EPA adjusted the mileage estimates and they came out at 21mpg city for my model so I am right on par there.
Trade it in or forget it? I drove Camry 4's almost every day at work (2000 model) and they are what made me buy my own camry. I have owned 10 cars in my life, 7 with 4 cylinder engines, and when i went to get my camry i searched high and low for a V6. I was tired of no pick up, engine noise, on-ramp-a-phobia. At 46 i figured it was time to splurge just a bit and got the V6. Its great. Smooth, quiet, powerful, and when any freeway foos decide they want to play a game i mash the pedal and im gone, just like that. I get about 25 mpg, i think on a long trip i could squeeze 30 if i kept it below 70 (which i wouldnt).
