Startup Problems?

I have an 07 Camry that I got in January, I only have 1400 miles on it. Anyways when I go to start it doesnt matter night or day cold or warm weather, it doesnt start over right away. I crank on it for I would say 20-30 seconds then release and try it again and then it will start. It doesnt do it all the time just once in awhile. Well I took it into the dealership the other day and they put it on the computer and found nothing wrong they said. They told me that is normal in the new camrys, is this true?

I doubt they told you a 20-30 second crank is normal. If they did then they're a bunch of dumb arses. Sounds like a possible fuel contamination issue to me. Try buying gas at a different location and see if it happens again.

Toyota techi I guess they are a bunch of dumb arses then, because that is exactly what they told me. I couldnt believe it so that is why I posted the question on here to see if this was true. I have owned other new cars before and never had this problem. So I guess maybe I need to try and take it to another dealer and see what they say.

Take it back to the selling dealer (I assumed that's where you took it). It really should be their responsibility to solve the problem. Tell them you have talked to numerous Camry owners on the internet forums and no one else's Camry takes 20-30 seconds of cranking to start. This is very hard on the starter. That said, intermittant problems are the worse problems to try to diagnose. You usually can't find the cause of the problem unless it's happening when they have the car. They probably just don't want to deal with it. If the tell you again there's nothing wrong with the car, I would call Toyota corporate at 800-331-4331 and talk to customer service. They will probably contact the dealer on your behalf. At the very least, you will have the problem documented at the corporate level, if it now vanishes and then returns after the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty is over.

Another way to approach is if they said 20-30 seconds is "normal" then ask the service manager to go with you to the sale lot to start each and every Camry they have on the lot to see if this is "normal" or not!!!

That's another great approach.

I started at least 10 different Camrys today and they all started right up.

Well that is good to know. THe dealership that I bought it from and yes that I took it back to just called to see how everything went and I told them that I was not happy. I said that I have been talking to a bunch of camry owners on the internet and they said that this is not normal. She told me to bring it back in and they can try and figure it out again. This is just my luck.

Good luck to you. Be professional about it. Let them know that your plan (not a threat) and your plan is to work with them locally but if you are not sastify with the results then you will take it to the next level (Contact Corporate) Their #1 job is customer satisfaction. Right now they need to make you from unhappy to happy by fixing your car right away. Keep us posted. Thanks.
