Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
What are the limitations? Can I use that as my primary key instead of one of the keyless entry keys? Since I have an aftermarket alarm, I was just thinking of using that key on my key ring to make things look a little simpler.
valet keys dont open trunk and if the glove box has a lock it wount open that. it will only start the car and unlocks it, that it
Well I got the answer to my question ... guess where ... yep ... the owners manual. I wanted to make sure the valet key had the chip in it. I have heard of some cars where the valet key could only be used for a certain time or speed. Now I am happy. Gonna put that key on my key ring
But why do you want to use the valet key as your primary? Now you've lost the wireless controls!
Since I have an aftermarket alarm installed I don't need all the buttons on the key and the remote for the alarm. Just a little less confusing if I have anyone else drive my car.
You could just get another master key without the controls. The down side is that the chipped keys cost about $40 from the dealer. Some hardware stores and locksmiths can reproduce chipped keys.

Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.

I don't like that you can only have 4 keys for the 07. Watchcrazy, did your remote starter require a key, or is it a transponder? And for anyone else who may know, if you use a transponder for aftermarket remote start, does that count as a "key" as far as the car is concerned?

We used one of my keys, we kinda fixed it up real nice so it can't be used if someone were to break in and find it. So now I have 2 keys, one master and the valet key. I am really the only one that drives the car, so 2 out of 3 ain't bad (hahahahaha).
The way you have it setup, does that mean that if I took a key without a chip and stuck it in your ignition that the car would start up since there is a chipped key in the car somewhere?
I have no idea how remote start is implemented with an immobilizer.
You install a module that either you program to get the correct code or you put a key in it (universal version) this is only on with the remote start. Ity is all part of the alarm. most car are now coming with some kind of transponder

I guess if you had a key that was cut right it might, but I am not sure. I think if the alarm was armed and you tried to start the car with a key without disarming the alarm it wouldn't start. The bottom line is, if someone wants to steal your car bad enough, they are gonna find a way. They could load it on a flatbed and take off with it. The average idiot that is just looking for a joy ride is not gonna go through all that, they will just find another car that is easier to steal I am not worried about somoene stealing my car ... more about someone stealing the stuff in the car.
Doh! Brain fart, I forgot about having to cut the key.
Now that I think about it, my system has starter kill but I can start my car without assistance from the starter. I've done it several times already in fact (for experimentation; not due to an issue with the vehicle)
