5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just got the call today, after I dropped my car at the dealership for improper shifting on my 2007 se V6. They told me that the tranny needs to be completely replaced. This is ridiculous!!!! I just sold my Turbo Mazda Protege to have more reliabilty, and this is what I get. Dont get me wrong I love the Camry, but this is not Toyota quality! Is this what happens when these cars get built here in the states? I got my car on July 12th 2006 and I have just under 16,000 miles, I know I drive a lot. They told me I am getting a corolla or matrix for the next week or so? WTF? I didnt spend $27,000 to drive a corolla??
I am assuming that you haven't read the boards much seeing as how the latest TSB for that problem states that the transmission has to be replaced, and a number of us here have had that done already.
Mine was done in February. It still flares, not as bad as the original tranny but it still flares. Also, for what it's worth, it doesn't have much to do with being built in the US. Mine was built in Japan.
I plan on taking mine back soon. I complained with Toyota, and they had one of their reps call me. I have to return it to the dealer so that they can diagnose the problem again and make sure that it's really happening again, I presume. Then, after that they said they would go from there.
Well I know some have been replaced, but I didnt realize that it was something that needed to be replaced on ALL Camrys? I mean the dealer wont do anything unless they can reproduce a problem. My Camry wouldnt even accelerate, and they said my tranny was "on its last leg" at 16,000 miles that is very very disappointing. Is there any way of making sure that the tranny they put in is not faulty as well??? A part #??

Folks, I'm new to this forum as well as the Toyota family. Does the recall include all 07's or just certain VIN #'s. The reason I ask is I had a recall on my previous car and it turns out that it was only certain VIN#'s
Welcome to the club! I'm surprised yours took that long. Yeah, but you're lucky like me. It could be worse it might not have happened till after your warranty expired.

It's not a recall, and yes the TSB is vin specific.

LOL! I dont feel "lucky" at all. To be honest with you I dont even want this car back, this is what I am trying to talk to Toyota about. I dont feel as if it will be reliable. I got rid of a car with tranny problems so that I could have a good reliable daily driver. I dont think it will ever be as good as new?
I just hope they dont replace it with the same garbage, and they gave me a Matrix to drive in the mean time. How embarassing! LOL!

Why not ... they admitted they made a mistake and are replacing your transmission with a brand new one?

It will have a new transmission, so why would it not be reliable? What you could do is ask them to give you an extended warranty to help you feel more comfortable. But asking them to take the car back is unreasonable at this point. There are laws about their responsibility for that very reason. Nothing is perfect, but they are doing what they are required to do to take care of your car. If every manufacture had to take back a car because of a defect in manufacturing we would all be riding a horse. No one would be able to stay in business and build cars. Let them fix the tranny and try to negotiate an extended warranty, that is what I would do.
Joe, I have a V6 and had the tranny replaced. I felt (and still feel) much the same as you do, due to the tranny and other more minor complaints. I called Toyota corporate and discussed my options with them and told them that at a minimum I expected the warranty to be extended. The obliged with a 7yr/100K platinum extended warranty.
You won't receive if you don't ask. I would certainly ask.
