When I'm not shifting into S mode I still rest my hand on the shifter. Guess thats from all the years I drove a stick-shift (manual trans). The shifter was always a few inches above the floor or console whichever applied. Less arm fatigue that way.

I just measured about 1/2" down. Threaded a nut on as far as it will go. Then cut the shaft above the nut. I then removed the nut (nut was there only to retain any mis-cut threads) and the screwed back on my knob. Is is easy. My wife fought me on this but now she admits she likes it better. She thinks I am way to picky.
