5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Sorry if this has been talked about but I did a search but I couldn't find anything.
I waxed my 07 Camry this afternoon and noticed it has several chips on the front end. I owned an Avalon for 10 years that had only 1 chip from a shopping cart so I am wondering if anyone else has noticed the paint on their Camry chipping easy.

If you take away the 2 or 3 rock chips my front end is good to go.
Upon delivery of my Camry I had noticed how flat the frontend was and I was very concerned with how susceptible it would be. I had a Venture Film paint protection system put on the front end and it still looks brand new after 11000 miles.
I love that stuff.

There have been many complaints about the paint quality on the 07 camry. I do a lot of highway driving and already have more chips than I can count on my fingers. In hindsight I see that I should've got a clearbra installed as soon as I got the car. Well worth the investment.

I just bought a new camry two weeks ago and already I have like four chips on it.I couldn't believe this happened so fast. And it sucks especially since the car is brand new. I also have like two or three scratches on it.I can understand the chips coming from flying pebbles on the road while driving, but the scratches really bothered me because don't really know how they got there.I'm thinking maybe from the car wash. The brushes that the guys use to scrub your car can do alot of damage, especially when they wash your car fast.Nevertheless, the paint should not be that weak to sucumb to scrathes or chips so easily.I've read that toyota only uses one coat to paint the car.And its a really cheap type of paint.I think its dupont.I heard they cut down costs when designing the 07' model to keep prices the same as the previous model.I had a 2004 camry in the past and when I turned it in after the lease it had so many chips and scrathes around the front bumper and hood. And that only had like 38000 miles on it after 3 years. So basically this type of paint issue is not new on the 07' model. They been using a cheap quality paint for a while. Besides my new camry I also own a 07' acura mdx.Almost 4 months old and absolutely no chips or scrathes at all.I guess because its one of those more expensive cars that use a two tone paint and metallic coat. The two tone and metallic nature gives it a richer apperance. When parked alongside the camry, you can tell the camry's paint looks cheaper and as if it was painted only one time.I was going to buy a clear bra,but hesitated because some of them out there will not cover the bumper or fender entirely and leave visible seams at the ends, also the film may leave unwanted air bubbles. And that kind of looks cheap when you look closely.I heard scotchguard is good, but too expensive for me to afford.I guess the best way to protect the car is avoid driving too close to a car and maybe buying the scotchguard if you can afford it.Also, waxing often may help and buying some touch up paint may be a good idea to cover those chips. However, from my experience owning a camry in the past I can tell you that the will see alot of chips and scratches appearing out of nowhere and very fast on your camry. My new camry is only three weeks old and these problems are already appearing.I'm just hoping that bird dropping won't do too much damage to the paint.Toyota should be ashamed in regartd to such quality issues.

Dupont is anything but cheap, actually one of the best.
Single stage vs multistage coating also plays a role. Most single stage have a blended clear coating within the paint.

First off, after 10 secs of reading your post, I started getting a headache! Try using some spaces after a complete sentence!
Anyway, like everyone has suggested, use some touch-up if your have some chips now and use the clear bra material. I like the thought of using this clear bra stuff, but it is costly up front and I understand the saving in the long run.
I just survived my first winter with my new Camry that I bought last May and I wish I had known about the Clear Bra back then. Here's what the winter has done to my car:
-Bumper has about 10 small chips
-Hood has 2 or 3 chips (one is a good size too)
-Windsheild has 2 or 3 chips
Come spend a winter up in New Hampshire with all the sand and salt on the roads!
Aside from all the chips, last fall I had a huge piece of road debris that a car in front of me kicked up while we were traveling about 70-75 MPH. Scared the ever living crap out of me!! If you can picture the front air dam from a ground effects kit, that's what it looked like. It hit the left A pillar, just missed the windshield, but whacked my mirror so hard it popped out the mirror. Then finally bounched off my roof. After inspecting everything, the only damage was on the underside of the mirror that was like a friction burn to the plastic and other than that, everything rubbed out with a good waxing!!
Anyway, my point of this rant is that this paint is quite resilient and looks excellent after numerous washing and survivng a winter, excluding the rock chips! I could also be my paint color, Magnetic Grey Metallic, is just more durable but that wouldn't make much sense!?
