5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2007 Camry SE, with a DVD-based Navigation system.
Can I do something to it so that I might watch DVD's on it?
Do I have to buy a whole new Navigation system?

I don't know why everyone on here is so gung-ho about ripping out their factory NAVI unit. I personally like the whole "Factory" look of the interior, and personally think that aftermarket kits for the 07 Camry's Double DIN opening look cheap (my personal opinion).
VAIS Technology is in the process of re-designing their SLI-AV unit. This unit attaches behind the factory NAVI unit and ADDS TWO MORE AUX ports to the existing NAVI unit. One is dedicated to the iPod & the other is a generic RCA Audio/Video input. You can add a DVD Player in the trunk, under the seat or whereever you want, and then you can watch a movie through the NAVI screen, even while driving! This unit is still under development, or else I'd already have it installed! I believe it will be aroiund $399 or so shipped.
I know the 07 Camry has the Audio port, but in my opinion, it sounds like shit. For an audiophile like myself, I like crystal clear sound, and the AUX port is a disgrace. Even with a ground loop isolator, I still hear static when playing my iPod throught it. The VAIS Tech adapter will allow you to keep the iPod hidden away in the compartment, while having it charged while plugged it. You can control the iPod directly through the NAVI screen, or using the steering wheel controls. On top of that, The song/artist will appear on the NAVI Screen as well.
From what I understand, this unit is supposed to be compatible with the 07 Camry with or WITHOUT the NAVI system (Not sure about NON-JBL though!)

Unfortunately, I can't get a clear response as to whether or not I can use the SLI on my NAV equipped car since I have XM (which is using the extra changer input on the back).

Hi
Hope all is well.
I think you are reading way too far into this. What we are trying to say is that the picture on this Nav screen is of EXCELLENT quality. It is an excellent quality LCD screen. Yes it is NOT 1080P, but you should be MORE than happy that you can view whatever you like on your nav screen, DVD,PS2, XBOX, Video Ipod etc. If you are interested in this mod this is fine, if not this is also fine and you can continue viewing only your Nav screen. You will not find another Nav mod for $450 that will give you 2 inputs, 1 for anything you like and the second for AUTOMATIC backup camera for $450. Human nature is very interesting, when something can't be done they will pay anything to have it done, as soon as you tell them it can be done they speak only negative about something they know nothing about. I can send you to as many forums as you like to prove that our picture quality, price, workmanship, and warranty is second to none, just let me know if you want the list. I will even put my money where my mouth is. The first forum member who is will do a complete DIY write up with pictures on the product will get the radio mod FREE. This is a $450 gift. You then supply the video source of your choice and backup camera. This way you can see first hand from one of your own members that this is the best mod around.
Thanks Dominic www.TVandNav2Go.com

I don't know if this holds true for the '07 Camry, but my friend has an '03 or '04 Lexus LX470 with navi and we were bored one day, so we put a DVD in the factory CD changer and the DVD played on the factory navi screen. Now it only played when it was in park or when the parking break was up. Like I said before, I don't know if this is how it is on the Camry's, it might just be something that Lexus did/does and Toyota doesn't.

Well, wrong thread. I was talking about the VAIS Tech device...your's won't allow iPod so it isn't what I was commenting on.
Since you decided to go there, I was talking about iPod integration...not viewing video with the iPod as a source.
How's that HD quality coming?
