5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Finally tracked down a "quality" 2007 V6 Toyota oil filter wrench. Thanks to the members of this fantastic forum who replied back with what they purchased/used I sourced a US made cast aluminum oil filter wrench which is far superior to what is stocked at the local auto parts stores. I've never been too happy with the stamped cap type wrenches but was resigned to the fact due to the location of the oil filter cannister housing the replacement oil filtering media a cp style wrench was the only way to go. Using the spec's I ordered via Amazon a Assenmacher model TOY640 oil filter wrench which is designed for the Camry/Avalon/Lexus family. Take a look below and tell me what you think?...yes, I am a certified tinkerer who loves quality tools.
Kind of pricey but I've never had much luck with the stamped caps...either slip, don't grip, or I end up busting the welded socket end off.

I haven't looked at where the oil filter canister is on the '07 V6, but shouldn't it be on only hand-tight? I recently changed the oil on my '06 Lexus V6 and I was able to twist the canister off with my hands. On second thought, the Lexus canister has 2 small tabs that assist in twisting it off. Does the Camry's?
No, still waiting delivery via ups. Paid $12 plus shipping versus $7 plus 8.625% tax for the stamped metal variety. Should be in my hands sometime late this week. Everyone's posted they had a hell of a time first getting the cannister off and after that it was clear sailing. I plan on using a socket on this Assenmacher with a 3/4 ratchet to break it free then I'll tighten it the way i want. On my old '99 Crown Victoria I could crawl underneath the car in my driveway but this Camry rides 5 inches from the ground and even my slended frame cannot get to the drain plug. I have time until my first oil change so I plan on cutting down some 2 x 10's and making a poor man's ramp to raise the driver side wheel just so I can reach both drain plus and oil cannister. Has anyone tapped on the Camry oil pan?....I swear it is a really thin casting...be sure and do not overtighten your drain plug!

Toolparadise.com seems to have the lowest price I could find for the TOY640. 11.72 plus shipping which was graduated by zip code. In my case 8.05. Wesco had it for 11.93 plus 10 bucks for ups ground. Anyone do better than this?
On another note, what is the tightening torque value for the filter cap?

"People who think they know it all are particularly irritating to those of us who do."
I scoured the web and even ebay but the best I could do was the $12 from amazon.com. Could have saved on the shipping provided I bring the order up to $25 but I really didn't need anything else especially from amazon. My biggest savings so far was purchasing the McGard wheel locks for the Camry. Needed it right away hence purchased it from autobarn locally. Dealer wanted $57.00 but I got the p/n from Greenfield Toyota in Massachusetts and cross referenced it using both McGard and autobarn. Wife will give me hell if I get the car vandalized especially since it is new.

The recommended torque for the filter can is 18 ft-lbs, and 10 ft-lbs for the drain plug in the filter can. I got a 64-mm filter wrench from Amazon, but it cost more than yours did, eflw1029. Bummer for me.
