5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just got back from my local Toyota dealer to have some rattles fixed on my 07 SE manual 4 banger. The service guy mentioned that Toyota will be releasing a V6 manual in 2008. Anyone else hear this? If this is true then I will most definately be trading mine in for one of these.
Oooh man, I hope that's not true. I would seriously consider trading in my 2 week old SE V6 for one with a 6-speed manual tranny. I almost got an 07 Honda Accord Coupe with the V6 and the 6-speed manual, but went with the Camry SE for size and comfort.

Techs like to throw around lots of rumors, and people tend to believe them because they work at Toyota. Yeah right. If Toyota doesn't even have a stick IS350, then forget about a stick Camry V6.

Glaring blue HID bulbs are NOT classy, and don't make your car look nice, no matter what that kid in the Civic told you.

No offense to the service guy, but the service guy usually does not know anything.
But I do know that 08 will have many bugs worked out that 07 owners had to deal with.
I mentioned that earlier, but couple of 07 owners were so adamant that the 07 will be EXACTLY the same as 08, and nothing will be changed. sure.......whatever you say..... Ignorance is bliss isn't it?

I see where they are coming from though, because with the Gen5, the 2002 and 2003 were exactly the same with no changes made (except for an option on the XLE).
Agreed! Besides, even manufacturer's of really fast automobiles are ditching them.
Mercedes has offered only an automatic transmission on their AMG models. Just in the last 5-7 years you could also shift it manually, but no third pedal.
BMW's M models had a manual transmission as part of the definition of an "M car". However, from their E46 M3 they offered the SMG tranny. True, it's technically a sequential, but there's no third pedal.
Last year, with the release of the E60 M5, then attempted to ditch the manual altogether by offering only a 7-speed SMG. Now they're also offering a 6-speed stick for the purists.
Audi's "S cars" have offered a Tiptronic manumatic tranny from a long time ago. They're more recent "RS cars" such as the RS4 and RS6 do not offer a manual under any circumstance. They're newest V-10 powered S6 and S8 sedans also only come with a manumatic.
Porsche is offering their Tiptronic S tranny on basically every single car they make now - even that crazy 911 Turbo S.
The simple fact is that if these premium car makers are offering their top-shelf models with automatics, then there obviously is no "need" for manual trannies anymore. Automatic trannies are extremely smart and smooth these days. And for the purists, there are trannies which are 80% close to a manual such as the dual-clutch DSG tranny.
I had a chance to drive an Audi TT 3.2 with the DSG 2 months ago. Great fun car. That tranny shifted insanely fast and matched the revs, too. I've driven my fair share of manuals since I come from Europe, but the automatic tranny is today's and tomorrow's winner.
